Sourcing sideloader forklifts from China
Sideloader forklifts from China carry 4% ordinary UK duty across the selected lines, with no variation in that range. Confirm the attached boom-lift remedy's scope and exclusion treatment. Machinery for Great Britain needs appropriate CE or UKCA marking and supporting documents. Cambridge China Bridge sources sideloader forklifts.

Sideloader codes and UK duty
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 29 September 2026, heading 8427 covers forklift trucks and other works trucks fitted with lifting or handling equipment. For sideloaders, classify the actual propulsion, lifting height and terrain design. The table repeats electric and other self-propelled codes for different power options; battery chemistry does not create a separate commodity line.
The selected lines carry 4% ordinary duty for goods from China. The snapshot also records 71.74% residual provisional anti-dumping duty and anti-dumping or countervailing registration. The published reference identifies a boom-lift case with an exclusion declaration for goods outside its scope. Ask your broker to confirm the scope, exclusion and registration treatment for the sideloader. No suspension or separate countervailing rate is recorded.
The tariff also attaches fluorinated-gas import and waste import and export controls. Check cab refrigerant: imported fluorinated-gas equipment must be labelled; confirm applicable import conditions with your broker. For Chinese goods classed as waste under notification controls, the exporter must apply to China's competent authority for consent. Confirm the complete waste requirements before shipping. Establish the commodity code from the specification; see warehouse reach trucks for the wider heading.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lithium-battery sideloader forklifts lifting at least 1 m | 8427 10 10 90 | 4% | 71.74% residual anti-dumping (provisional) |
| Diesel sideloader forklifts lifting at least 1 m, excluding rough-terrain types | 8427 20 19 90 | 4% | 71.74% residual anti-dumping (provisional) |
Specify long-load support and side reach
Give the factory the weight, length, width and centre of gravity of the timber bundles, pipes or profiles you handle. Specify capacity at the required load centre, lift height and side-reach position, including the chosen attachments. Agree deck dimensions, fork spacing, fork length, lateral reach and the method of supporting the load during travel.
Provide rack clearances, aisle width, doorway dimensions, floor condition and outdoor surfaces. Distinguish a conventional sideloader from a truck with selectable travel directions; request a demonstration of the ordered steering arrangement. Agree mast clearance, cab visibility, tyres, battery and charger pairing or engine configuration, and access for servicing.
For Great Britain, request appropriate CE or UKCA marking, the truck's declaration, English operating and maintenance instructions and supporting test records. Match the capacity chart to the mast and attachments. Agree spare-part identifiers and diagnostic access. Use factory verification to check production and testing capability, and quote checking to compare the complete configuration.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: one diesel sideloader forklift; values are illustrative, with trade-remedy exclusion to be confirmed under 8427 20 19 90, invoiced at £10,000 free on board, with £1,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £11,000. Duty at 4% is £440. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £11,440, so it is £2,288. Import taxes total £2,728; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £440 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Identity and documents: match the truck, mast, forks, attachments and power system to the order, declaration and capacity chart. Check marking, warning labels and English instructions.
Side reach and load support: measure the deck and forks, check lateral movement, rollers, chains and hydraulic leaks, and arrange a controlled demonstration with the agreed long-load configuration.
Travel and controls: check steering modes, service and parking brakes, operator-presence controls, cab visibility and fitted safety functions. Demonstrate manoeuvring with the load supported in the specified travel position.
Power and arrival condition: check charging operation and connectors on electric trucks, or starting and visible leaks on engine-powered trucks. Photograph transport damage and inspect deck alignment and fork condition on arrival. See quality inspection.

What goes wrong
A headline capacity can conceal reduced capacity with the mast extended sideways or with an attachment fitted. Long bundles may overhang the agreed deck, obscure visibility or need more turning space than the buyer allowed. Put the load geometry, support position and demonstration conditions into the purchase specification.
A substituted steering system, battery or controller can leave the truck unsuitable for the site or difficult to service. Missing capacity charts and mismatched declarations also delay acceptance. Inspect the ordered configuration before releasing the balance, and have the broker record the trade-remedy scope decision. The import duty and VAT guide explains the tax calculation.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on sideloader forklifts from China?
The selected lines carry 4% ordinary duty. They also show a 71.74% residual provisional boom-lift measure; ask your broker to confirm scope, exclusion and registration treatment. No suspension is recorded.
What documents should a Chinese sideloader supplier provide?
Request the exact truck's declaration, appropriate CE or UKCA marking, English operating and maintenance instructions, capacity chart and supporting test records. Match the documents to the mast and attachments.
How do I specify a sideloader for long timber or pipes?
Provide load weight, dimensions and centre of gravity, rack height and aisle clearances. Agree capacity at the required side reach, deck support, fork spacing, steering arrangement and travel position.
What should I check when a sideloader forklift arrives?
Photograph damage, match identifiers and documents, and inspect deck alignment, forks, hydraulics and power connections. Arrange controlled checks of side reach, steering and brakes against the agreed configuration.
