Sourcing RF printed circuit boards from China
RF printed circuit boards from China under heading 8534 carry 0% UK duty across the listed lines. Specify the laminate, stack-up and impedance acceptance before production; component materials must support the finished product's restricted-substance compliance. Cambridge China Bridge sources RF printed circuit boards.

Zero duty on RF printed circuits
Heading 8534 covers printed circuits. RF use does not create a separate line: choose between multilayer circuits consisting only of conductors and contacts, other such circuits, and circuits with other passive elements. The supplied tariff data contains only the commodity lines shown here.
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, all listed lines carry 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied data records no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspensions or attached import controls. Import VAT is separate from customs duty.
Confirm the commodity code against the actual construction. Mounted-component assemblies need separate classification consideration. For wider printed-circuit sourcing, see the HDI printed circuit board guide.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multilayer RF printed circuits with only conductors and contacts | 8534 00 11 00 | 0% | None |
| Other RF printed circuits with only conductors and contacts | 8534 00 19 00 | 0% | None |
| RF printed circuits with other passive elements | 8534 00 90 00 | 0% | None |
Specify the RF laminate and stack-up
Send revision-controlled fabrication files and a stack-up drawing. Name the laminate manufacturer and grade, dielectric thickness, copper thickness and surface finish. State the dielectric constant and loss factor required, together with the frequency and measurement method used to define them. Require written approval before any material substitution.
Identify controlled-impedance traces, their tolerances and test coupons. Agree how the factory will report impedance, and whether sample boards need insertion-loss or return-loss measurements. Define the frequency range, fixture and acceptance criteria so factory and buyer results can be compared.
For components supplied business to business, government guidance distinguishes the component from the finished assembly: the component is outside the hazardous-substance regulations' scope, but the finished assembly must comply when placed on the market. Ask for material declarations covering the laminate, solder mask and finish to support the finished-product assessment.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order of 5,000 multilayer RF bare boards under 8534 00 11 00, invoiced at £20,000 free on board, with £1,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £21,500. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £21,500, so it is £4,300. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Laminate: match material certificates and batch identity to the approved grade and stack-up; check that substitutions have written approval.
RF performance: compare impedance coupon results with the drawing and review agreed sample measurements using the specified fixture and frequency range.
Fabrication: measure board thickness and track geometry; inspect via plating, registration and surface finish, with coupon microsections where agreed.
Batch release: check electrical test records for every board, inspect bow and twist, and confirm dry protective packing with traceable batch labels.

What goes wrong
A substitute laminate can change dielectric behaviour and loss even when the board dimensions look correct. Different dielectric thickness, etched track width or copper roughness can shift RF performance. A continuity test checks connections but does not establish the agreed RF performance.
Coupon results become difficult to interpret if they cannot be traced to the supplied batch or use a different stack-up. Freeze the fabrication revision, agree the measurement method before production and investigate discrepancies before assembly. Use testing and certification support to agree the evidence needed.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on RF PCBs from China?
The supplied tariff data shows 0% across heading 8534, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty. Import VAT is separate.
Can a factory substitute the RF laminate?
Require written approval first. Compare dielectric properties, thickness and loss using the agreed measurement conditions, then assess the effect on your design.
Does electrical testing prove RF performance?
Continuity testing checks opens and shorts. Specify impedance results and any required insertion-loss or return-loss measurements separately.
What documents should accompany RF boards?
Ask for laminate and material declarations, batch traceability, the approved fabrication revision, electrical test records and agreed impedance or RF measurement results.
