Duty and material controls

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 4 October 2026, heading 6507 covers headbands, linings, covers, hat foundations, hat frames, peaks and chinstraps for headgear. Replacement helmet peaks fall within the peaks description, subject to confirmation of the actual goods. The table shows buying variants under the same supplied commodity line.

The supplied line carries 0% duty for goods from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measure and no suspension shown. The tariff attaches cat and dog fur import and export controls and seal-product import controls. Cat and dog fur products cannot be imported or exported. Seal products for sale in Great Britain must qualify under the Inuit or other indigenous communities exemption and have a seal catch attestation certificate. Ask your customs broker to confirm eligibility if animal-derived material is proposed.

Confirm the commodity code using photographs, material details and the intended helmet application. Describe projecting peaks clearly rather than treating a face shield as the same product. For related parts within the wider heading, see helmet chinstraps.

Specify the helmet interface

Name the helmet make, model, shell size and version. Supply an actual helmet and an approved peak sample. Specify projection, curvature, attachment positions, clip shape or screw details, adjustment range and supplied fixings. Agree that fitting must not require drilling or forcing the helmet shell.

Specify the resin grade, colour, finish and permitted material substitutions. Agree checks for flexing, cold brittleness, sunlight exposure and cleaning with the intended products. Confirm clearance around the face shield and ventilation openings throughout adjustment.

For Great Britain consumer sales, products must be safe. Separately sold components may require individual conformity assessment and marking. Ask a compliance adviser to determine the route for the peak's intended function and helmet application before approving production; do not assume the helmet's documents cover a substitute peak. Use testing and certification support to organise the resulting checks.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 900 replacement helmet peaks under 6507 00 00 00, invoiced at £9,000 free on board, with £900 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £9,900. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £9,900, so it is £1,980. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Fit: mount sampled production peaks on the named helmet versions; check alignment, clearance and adjustment without forcing the attachments.

Attachments: check clips, screw seats and supplied fixings against the approved sample; repeat fitting and removal and check for loosening or cracking.

Material and finish: check resin records, warping, sharp moulding flash and cracks; repeat agreed flexing and environmental checks on production samples.

Packing and identification: check model compatibility information, fitting instructions and carton contents; protect projecting edges and keep different fittings separate. See quality inspection.

What goes wrong

A peak can resemble the sample but miss the helmet's attachment geometry. Clips then need force, screw seats crack, or adjustment brings the peak into contact with the face shield. Substituted resin can produce brittle tabs, excessive flex or distortion after storage.

Reject fit claims based only on photographs. Trial production parts on the intended helmets, retain the approved material specification and investigate any change in attachment behaviour before releasing the shipment.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on replacement helmet peaks from China?

The supplied UK Trade Tariff line, 6507 00 00 00, carries 0% duty for goods from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measure shown.

Can a replacement peak fit any helmet?

Do not buy on a universal-fit claim alone. Check the exact helmet model, shell size, attachment geometry and clearance using physical production samples.

Does the helmet's certification cover a replacement peak?

Do not assume it does. Separately sold components may need individual conformity assessment and marking. Have the intended peak and helmet application assessed before sale.

What should I send a factory to quote replacement peaks?

Send the helmet model details, an actual helmet, the approved peak, attachment drawings, resin specification, finish and the agreed fitting and durability checks.
