Sourcing Quercitrin from China

Quercitrin from China has a 6% standard UK duty under the residual glycoside line; the supplied facts show no quercitrin-specific suspension or trade remedy. Importers are responsible for chemical classification. Confirm the intended use and test identity as well as assay. Cambridge China Bridge sources quercitrin.

Quercitrin classification and duty

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 4 October 2026, heading 2938 covers natural or synthetic glycosides and their salts, ethers, esters and other derivatives. For separately supplied quercitrin, 2938 90 90 90 is the candidate residual line, with a standard duty of 6% for goods from China. The supplied facts record no anti-dumping or countervailing duty. The table shows purchasing formats under the same candidate code, rather than separate tariff lines.

The residual line's 0.00 % suspension is restricted to a specified purified steviol glycoside for beverage manufacture; it does not describe quercitrin. The UK Trade Tariff also attaches an export control for waste. Ask your customs broker to confirm its relevance to the shipment, particularly if the material is discarded or returned as waste. For waste shipments into England, official guidance says imports generally must be for recovery.

Confirm the commodity code using the substance identity, composition and intended presentation. Do not assume a plant extract or formulated mixture uses the same code as separately supplied quercitrin. For context on other products within this heading, see the hesperidin guide.

Specify quercitrin identity and assay

Name quercitrin explicitly in the purchase specification. Ask for the substance identifier, botanical source where relevant, extraction and purification process, and any added carrier. Agree an identity test, assay method, reporting basis, moisture specification, residual solvent checks and particle size. Request the chromatogram and reference material details alongside the batch certificate.

Chemical classification is the responsibility of suppliers, including importers. Establish your UK REACH position before ordering; confirm the applicable registration threshold and how it relates to your annual imports with HSE or your chemical adviser. Keep the intended application clear when requesting supplier documents.

For proposed food or supplement use, investigate the exact ingredient's novel food status before ordering. Novel foods need authorisation before sale in Great Britain. This guide does not establish that quercitrin is authorised for food use; a supplier's description of a powder as food grade is insufficient evidence.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 3 kg of quercitrin powder for laboratory use under 2938 90 90 90, invoiced at £1,500 free on board, with £100 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £1,600. Duty at 6% is £96. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £1,696, so it is £339.20. Import taxes total £435.20; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £96 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Identity: compare the delivered batch with the agreed quercitrin reference material and identity method; check that the supplier has not substituted a similarly named substance.

Assay: compare the laboratory result with the contracted method and reporting basis. Distinguish chromatographic area results from the agreed quantitative assay.

Impurities: check moisture, residual solvents and the agreed contaminant panel against the purchase specification. Investigate unexplained chromatographic peaks.

Packing and records: check seals, inner liners, signs of moisture and powder leakage. Match container labels, batch certificates and retained samples. Use the inspection guide to organise the checks.

What goes wrong

A purchasing risk is accepting an assay result without checking what it measures. A chromatographic purity result can be mistaken for the agreed content assay, while moisture or an undeclared carrier changes the delivered composition. Similar product names can also lead to the wrong material being supplied.

Agree the method and acceptance criteria before shipment, retain an approved sample and arrange independent batch testing. Investigate a mismatch before releasing the material into production. Resolve proposed food use separately from analytical acceptance; an acceptable laboratory result does not establish novel food authorisation.

Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For repeat volumes, see container programmes.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on quercitrin from China?

The supplied facts give 6% on candidate code 2938 90 90 90. No quercitrin-specific suspension or anti-dumping or countervailing duty is recorded. Confirm the classification before shipment.

Can I import quercitrin for use in food supplements?

Investigate the exact ingredient's novel food status and intended use first. Novel foods need authorisation before sale in Great Britain. This guide does not confirm quercitrin's food-use status.

What should a quercitrin certificate of analysis show?

Request batch identity, the assay method and reporting basis, moisture and agreed impurity results. Obtain the chromatogram and reference material details so the result can be checked independently.

How do I compare quercitrin samples from different factories?

Use the same identity and assay methods, reporting basis and sample preparation. Compare moisture and impurities as well as assay, and keep an approved sample for checking the delivered batch.
