Sourcing Diosmin from China

Diosmin buyers should distinguish the 6% standard tariff from possible 0% relief for listed pharmaceutical substances, whose eligibility needs confirmation. UK-based importers of medicinal active substances must register with the MHRA. Specify identity, assay and particle size before ordering. Cambridge China Bridge sources diosmin.

Diosmin duty and classification

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 4 October 2026, heading 2938 covers glycosides and their derivatives. The supplied rutin-and-derivatives line, 2938 10 00 00, lists 6% duty for China, with no recorded anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no suspension. The reference guide describes 0% treatment for listed pharmaceutical substances; confirm eligibility separately. The table shows purchasing specifications within the same candidate line, rather than separate tariff subdivisions.

The supplied tariff attaches an export control for waste. Waste shipment controls apply only where the material is waste. Ask your customs broker to confirm the relevance of the attached measure, particularly before returning rejected material to China.

For bulk diosmin, ask your broker to check the rutin-derivative line against the product's identity and composition. Provide the manufacturing description, assay and details of any added ingredients when confirming your commodity code. For wider glycoside context, see the naringin guide.

Specify diosmin identity, assay and particle size

State whether you are buying unformulated diosmin or a preparation containing other ingredients. Specify the identity test, assay method and reporting basis, related substances, moisture, residual solvents and particle-size distribution. For micronised material, agree the measurement method and sample preparation. Request batch results rather than a specification sheet containing only acceptance limits.

For medicinal active-substance use, UK-based importers must register with the MHRA and comply with good manufacturing and distribution practice. Check the exporting authority's written confirmation of manufacturing practice and regulatory oversight with your regulatory adviser. For food or supplement use, establish novel-food status before ordering; novel foods need authorisation before sale in Great Britain. A supplier's grade description does not resolve these checks.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative: 20 kg of unformulated diosmin powder, assuming classification and standard duty are confirmed under 2938 10 00 00, invoiced at £1,500 free on board, with £980 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £2,480. Duty at 6% is £148.80. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £2,628.80, so it is £525.76. Import taxes total £674.56; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £148.80 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Identity and assay: compare the received batch with the agreed identity test and assay method; check whether the result is reported on a dried basis or as received.

Particle size: test the agreed distribution using the same preparation and measurement method as the approved sample, especially for micronised diosmin.

Impurities: check related substances, residual solvents and moisture against the purchase specification; include appropriate microbiological checks where relevant to the intended use.

Packing and records: inspect seals, liners and signs of dampness; match drum labels, batch numbers and certificates of analysis. Arrange independent testing against the agreed specification.

What goes wrong

A total-flavonoid result can be mistaken for a diosmin-specific assay, or dried-basis results compared with results reported as received. Micronised powder can also arrive agglomerated and behave differently in processing. Keep a retained sample and agree how disputed results will be assessed.

Do not accept an undeclared blend against an order for unformulated diosmin. Keep material on hold while identity, composition or documentation discrepancies are investigated. Use the quality inspection guide to plan sampling and release checks before shipment.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on diosmin from China?

The supplied rutin-derivative line, 2938 10 00 00, lists 6%, with no recorded trade remedy or suspension. Confirm diosmin's classification and any pharmaceutical relief with your broker.

Do I need MHRA registration to import diosmin?

If you are based in the UK and import diosmin as a medicinal active substance, MHRA registration is required. Manufacturing and distribution practice requirements also apply.

Can I use imported diosmin in a food supplement?

Establish the ingredient's novel-food status and intended use before ordering. If it is novel, authorisation is needed before sale in Great Britain. This guide does not establish diosmin's food-use status.

How do I compare micronised diosmin samples?

Compare identity, diosmin assay, related substances and particle-size distribution using agreed methods. Trial the samples in your process; appearance alone cannot establish equivalence.
