Duty on oscillating multitool saw blades

Heading 8202 covers handsaws and blades for saws of all kinds. This guide concerns replacement saw blades for oscillating multitools. The table identifies possible lines within other saw blades, according to blade form and the material being worked. Wood and plastic applications share a tariff line; they are shown separately to help buyers describe their range.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, the listed straight metal-working blades and other blades for metal or other materials carried 2% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff records show no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, steel measure, suspension or attached import control for these lines.

Send your customs broker the blade drawing, intended cutting materials and pack contents to confirm the commodity code. Mixed accessory kits may be classified as a set or as separate items. The reciprocating saw blades guide provides related coverage of the wider heading.

Specify the mounting interface and cutting job

State the mounting pattern, locating-hole geometry, blade offset and the exact tool models you intend to list as compatible. Approve samples on those tools, including any specified adaptor. A blade that fits over the mounting boss can still fail to clamp securely or foul the tool housing.

Specify plunge or segment shape, cutting width, usable cutting depth, body thickness, tooth pitch and tooth material. Distinguish clean wood, nail-embedded wood, sheet metal and plastics. Agree the steel grade, heat treatment and any welded cutting strip or carbide teeth, then compare sample cutting performance on the intended materials.

For blades intended for or likely to be used by consumers in Great Britain, general product safety rules require safety in normal or reasonably foreseeable use. Include mounting security and tooth retention in your sample assessment. Agree compatible-tool information, cutting-material descriptions and handling precautions before approving packaging.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 10,000 wood-cutting oscillating multitool saw blades under 8202 99 80 00, invoiced at £35,000 free on board, with £2,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £37,000. Duty at 2% is £740. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £37,740, so it is £7,548. Import taxes total £8,288; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £740 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Mounting: check hole positions, interface profile and offset against the approved drawing; fit samples to the listed tools and check clamping security and housing clearance.

Cutting edge: check tooth pitch, grind, missing teeth and cutting-strip attachment; compare cuts and edge wear with the approved sample on each claimed material.

Body and material: check thickness, flatness, burrs and corrosion; compare material certificates and sample hardness with the agreed specification.

Packing: check blade assortment, material descriptions, compatibility information and edge protection against approved artwork; record results at inspection and repeat these checks on arrival.

What goes wrong

Broad compatibility claims fail when mounting slots, locating holes or blade offsets differ from the approved sample. Loose clamping causes movement, while an unsuitable offset restricts access or brings the blade against the housing. Keep a physical mounting sample and reject substitutions until they have been checked on the intended tools.

Soft teeth lose their edge, brittle teeth chip and poorly attached cutting strips separate. A blade approved only on clean wood does not establish performance in nail-embedded timber. Compare shipment samples on the actual cutting materials, retain batch samples and investigate changes in steel, heat treatment or tooth attachment before accepting repeat orders.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on oscillating multitool saw blades from China?

The relevant other saw blade lines in the supplied tariff records carry 2% duty, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspension or attached import control shown.

Will a universal multitool blade fit every tool?

Do not accept the description alone. Specify the mounting interface and listed tool models, then check clamping security, adaptor fit and housing clearance on physical samples.

How do I check a blade sold for wood with nails?

Test samples on nail-embedded timber as well as clean wood. Compare cutting progress, tooth damage and attachment integrity with the approved sample.

Can I import a mixed multitool accessory kit under the blade code?

A mixed kit may be classified as a set or as separate items. Give your customs broker the complete contents, intended uses and retail packaging before confirming its code.
