Sourcing organomineral blends from China
Organomineral fertiliser blends from China can fall under UK duty lines of 2% to 6%, depending on composition and packaging; high-ammonium-nitrate lines carry 6.50%. Animal-derived feedstock needs separate import checks, and ready-to-use animal-derived blends may need APHA authorisation. Cambridge China Bridge sources organomineral fertiliser blends.

Duty depends on the formulation and pack
Heading 3105 covers compound mineral or chemical fertilisers, other fertilisers and small packs or tablets. For organomineral blends, give your broker the full organic feedstock list, mineral ingredients, nutrient analysis and packaging details. The table shows candidate lines, including a mineral or chemical NPK line only where the formulation fits that description. See the wider fertiliser guide.
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, the selected lines carried 2% or 6% duty for goods from China. Separate high-ammonium-nitrate lines carried 6.50%. The supplied tariff data records no anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no suspensions. The small-pack lines attach Veterinary control: ask your customs broker to confirm the health-entry document requirement for your actual ingredients.
Animal by-product consignments must enter through an approved border control post. Ready-to-use animal-derived blends covered by APHA's direct-sale guidance require prior authorisation for imports from China, which must accompany the consignment. Processed-manure products have separate guidance and require an establishment approved to export to Great Britain. Confirm the commodity code and the applicable animal-origin conditions before ordering.

Specify the organic feedstock and mineral fraction
Ask for a complete recipe naming each organic feedstock and mineral nutrient source. Distinguish plant residues, manure and other animal-derived materials. Specify organic matter or organic carbon with the test method and reporting basis, total nitrogen, phosphate and potash, moisture, chloride and agreed contaminant tests. State whether the product is co-granulated or a physical blend.
Agree granule size distribution, strength, dust, caking acceptance, bag liners and batch identification. Confirm applicable fertiliser labelling and declared-nutrient requirements with the relevant authority; settle the nutrient declaration before printing bags. Do not assume that translating the factory label settles the UK requirements.
For animal-derived formulations, ask APHA to confirm whether the Chinese origin, factory, processing method and intended destination are acceptable. Request the applicable authorisation and ask which health certificates are needed. Do this before committing to production, particularly where manure is mixed with other animal-derived ingredients.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 25 tonnes of plant-derived organomineral granules in 25 kg bags, assuming classification under this code under 3105 90 80 90, invoiced at £9,000 free on board, with £2,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £11,500. Duty at 2% is £230. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £11,730, so it is £2,346. Import taxes total £2,576; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £230 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Feedstock: compare production records and ingredient declarations with the approved recipe; investigate any substitution of plant material with manure or animal meal.
Analysis: independently sample the shipment and check nutrients, organic matter or carbon, moisture, chloride and agreed contaminants against the contract, using the same reporting basis.
Granules: check sieve distribution, crushing behaviour, dust, segregation and caking; compare samples from different bags rather than relying on the factory's presentation sample.
Arrival: check wet patches, torn liners, split seams, bag weights and batch labels; match the consignment to its analysis and applicable import documents. Use the inspection guide to brief the inspector.

What goes wrong
An organomineral blend can meet a headline nutrient claim while containing less organic material than agreed. Results become difficult to compare when the supplier reports dry-basis values and the buyer tests the delivered product. Uneven particle sizes allow the organic and mineral fractions to separate; damp product cakes, and weak granules turn into dust.
Undeclared animal-derived ingredients can leave the buyer with an unresolved import route. A satisfactory nutrient report does not settle animal-origin paperwork. Hold any changed formulation for review before shipment, and investigate wet or segregated stock before resale.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For repeat volumes, see container programmes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on organomineral fertiliser from China?
The selected candidate lines carry 2% or 6%, depending on composition and packaging. Separate high-ammonium-nitrate lines carry 6.50%. The supplied tariff data shows no anti-dumping or countervailing duty.
Can I import a blend containing manure from China?
Check the exact recipe with APHA before ordering. Processed-manure products have separate import guidance and need an establishment approved to export to Great Britain. Do not assume the factory's nutrient report settles eligibility.
Does animal-derived organomineral fertiliser need import authorisation?
Ready-to-use animal-derived blends covered by APHA's direct-sale guidance need prior APHA authorisation for imports from China, and it must accompany the consignment. Ask APHA which route covers your formulation.
What should I test in an organomineral blend?
Check nutrients, organic matter or carbon, moisture, chloride and agreed contaminants. Also inspect particle size, dust, strength, segregation and caking. Agree methods and whether results are reported on a dry or delivered basis.
