Sourcing nickel titanium yellow from China

Nickel antimony titanium yellow pigments from China normally carry 6% UK duty under the residual colouring-matter line, subject to composition checks. For Great Britain, confirm UK REACH coverage and the required hazard labels and safety data sheet. Cambridge China Bridge sources nickel antimony titanium yellow pigments.

6% duty on the residual pigment line

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, heading 3206 covers other colouring matter and colouring preparations. The supplied tariff has no named nickel antimony titanium yellow line. Use 3206 49 70 90 as a classification candidate, with 6% duty from China and no listed anti-dumping or countervailing duty. Its 0% suspension concerns specified Pigment Black 12 goods, not nickel yellow. The table shows supply forms against the same candidate line, rather than separate tariff subdivisions.

The tariff attaches an import waste control. For waste from China imported into England under notification controls, the exporter must seek consent from the competent authority in the dispatch country and follow its procedures. Confirm the applicable waste requirements with your customs broker before shipment. The line also carries export flags for waste and dangerous chemicals; ask the broker to check these before arranging any return to China.

Send the broker the chemical identity, complete formulation, surface treatment and supplied form to confirm the commodity code. A yellow trade name alone is insufficient to choose a line. For wider heading context, see chrome antimony titanium yellow pigments.

Specify the nickel yellow grade and application

Ask the factory to identify the nickel antimony titanium yellow substance and distinguish the pigment from any added fillers, carriers or surface treatments. Agree a retained reference sample, shade tolerance, tinting strength, particle-size distribution, moisture and oil absorption. State whether the pigment will enter a coating, plastic compound or another formulation.

Test the sample in your actual binder or resin, using the intended dispersion process and processing temperature. Compare full shade and a tint against the retained reference. Ask for supporting test results for heat stability and weathering where these properties matter to the finished product.

For Great Britain, confirm with HSE how annual import quantities affect UK REACH registration coverage. Registration is per substance and legal entity. Ask HSE to confirm the applicable hazard-labelling and safety-data-sheet requirements for the supplied grade, including whether the sheet must be in English. Match the substance identity and formulation across the technical specification and chemical paperwork.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: 10 tonnes of nickel antimony titanium yellow pigment preparations, illustrative under 3206 49 70 90, invoiced at £24,000 free on board, with £2,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £26,000. Duty at 6% is £1,560. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £27,560, so it is £5,512. Import taxes total £7,072; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £1,560 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Identity: match the factory grade, declared composition, surface treatment and batch certificate to the approved specification.

Colour: compare full shade and tinting strength against the retained sample in the agreed binder or resin.

Dispersion: check for coarse particles, persistent agglomerates and hard settling in a trial formulation; compare moisture and oil absorption with the agreed limits.

Arrival: check bag seals, liners, leakage and caking; match batch markings to certificates and retain a sample from each delivered batch.

What goes wrong

A supplier can offer another yellow pigment against a shade photograph, or supply a blend without identifying its components. Similar powder colour does not establish the same chemical identity or behaviour in your formulation. Compare the identity documents and application sample before approving a substitution.

Changes in milling or surface treatment can alter dispersion and tinting strength. Damp or damaged bags can leave hard lumps that disrupt production. Agree batch acceptance tests before ordering, and keep suspect arrivals separate while comparing them with the retained reference.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on nickel antimony titanium yellow from China?

The candidate residual line 3206 49 70 90 carries 6% duty from China in the supplied tariff snapshot. Its suspension concerns specified black pigment goods. Confirm the code against the actual composition.

Does the titanium content make this titanium dioxide pigment?

Do not choose the titanium dioxide line from the name alone. Give your broker the chemical identity, formulation and supplied form so they can distinguish the pigment from titanium dioxide preparations.

Do I need UK REACH registration for this pigment?

For Great Britain, confirm with HSE how annual import quantities affect registration coverage and whether a GB-based only representative appointed by the Chinese manufacturer can cover your imports.

How do I check whether a batch matches my sample?

Compare full shade, tinting strength and dispersion in your agreed binder or resin. Match the batch certificate and identity documents, inspect moisture and caking, and retain a sample from the delivered batch.
