Sourcing MKP fertiliser from China
Monopotassium phosphate fertiliser from China carries 2% UK duty under the phosphorus-and-potassium line, or 6% in qualifying small packs. Confirm composition and packaging before classification, and settle the fertiliser label and UK REACH position before ordering. Cambridge China Bridge sources monopotassium phosphate fertiliser.

2% for PK fertiliser, 6% for small packs
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 5 November 2026, monopotassium phosphate fertiliser classified under 3105 60 00 00 carries 2% duty from China. Qualifying packs of gross weight not exceeding 10 kg fall under 3105 10 00 90 at 6%. Neither line shows anti-dumping or countervailing duty, or a suspension.
Heading 3105 covers compound and other fertilisers, including phosphorus-and-potassium fertilisers. The table also shows conditional alternatives for formulations containing monopotassium phosphate; these are not interchangeable codes for the pure product. The small-pack line attaches Veterinary control. Confirm its application to the actual goods with your customs broker before shipment.
Confirm the commodity code using the full composition, fertiliser use and gross pack weight. Do not classify industrial-grade phosphate solely from its chemical name. For nitrogen-containing blends and the wider heading, see our compound fertiliser guide.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monopotassium phosphate fertiliser, outside the small-pack line | 3105 60 00 00 | 2% | None |
| Monopotassium phosphate fertiliser in packs of gross weight not exceeding 10 kg | 3105 10 00 90 | 6% | None |
| MKP-based nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium blends, nitrogen not exceeding 10% | 3105 20 90 00 | 6% | None |
| Other formulated fertilisers containing MKP, subject to composition | 3105 90 80 90 | 2% | None |
Specify soluble phosphate and potash
Specify monopotassium phosphate identity, declared water-soluble phosphate and potash, moisture, insoluble residue, chloride and particle size. Agree a dissolution test using the buyer's intended water and application concentration. For irrigation use, check the dissolved sample for sediment rather than accepting a clear photograph supplied by the factory.
Settle the fertiliser type and nutrient declaration before printing bags. Confirm the applicable GB fertiliser labelling requirements with the relevant authority rather than relying on a translation of the Chinese label. For a substance not previously imported, HSE says to consider whether UK REACH registration is required. Resolve that position before ordering.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 25 tonnes of monopotassium phosphate fertiliser in 25 kg bags under 3105 60 00 00, invoiced at £9,000 free on board, with £2,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £11,500. Duty at 2% is £230. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £11,730, so it is £2,346. Import taxes total £2,576; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £230 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Identity and nutrients: independently sample the shipment and compare phosphate, potash and substance identity with the agreed specification and batch analysis.
Dissolution: check dissolution and insoluble residue under the agreed conditions, retaining the sample and laboratory results against the batch.
Condition: inspect arrival samples for dampness, hard caking, discolouration and foreign material; compare particle size with the approved sample.
Packing and labels: check liners, seals, bag weights and pallet protection, and match batch identifiers and nutrient declarations to the shipment documents. Plan the checks through our inspection guide.

What goes wrong
A sample may dissolve cleanly while the shipment leaves sediment, or nutrient results may disagree with the bag declaration. Moisture ingress can turn free-flowing crystals into hard lumps. Treat solubility, nutrient analysis and packing as separate acceptance checks, and retain representative samples before releasing a disputed batch.
Confusing monopotassium phosphate with monoammonium phosphate changes the nutrient profile. Adding nitrogen also changes the classification question. Check the actual formulation and pack weight before accepting the supplier's suggested code or copying a label from a different fertiliser.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For repeat volumes, see container programmes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on monopotassium phosphate fertiliser from China?
The supplied tariff snapshot shows 2% under 3105 60 00 00, or 6% under 3105 10 00 90 for qualifying small packs. Composition and gross pack weight decide the classification.
Can I use the Chinese fertiliser label in Great Britain?
Do not rely on a translation alone. Confirm the applicable fertiliser type and nutrient declaration requirements with the relevant authority before printing the bags.
How do I check monopotassium phosphate for irrigation use?
Agree a dissolution test with your intended water and concentration. Independently test nutrients and insoluble residue from shipment samples, rather than relying on a factory-selected sample.
Does monopotassium phosphate need a UK REACH check?
Yes. HSE says businesses importing a substance they have not previously imported need to consider whether UK REACH registration is required. Resolve your position before ordering.
