Sourcing micro gas turbine engines from China
Micro gas turbine engines and the relevant parts listed here carry 0% UK duty from China. For Great Britain, distinguish complete machinery from partly completed machinery: the latter needs a declaration of incorporation and assembly instructions. Cambridge China Bridge sources micro gas turbine engines.

Micro gas turbine engines: 0% UK duty
Heading 8411 covers turbojets, turbopropellers and other gas turbines, including their parts. For a stationary micro gas turbine engine, consider 8411 81 00 90; for a micro turbojet, consider 8411 11 00 90. These are different engine types, so specify whether the output is shaft power or thrust. For turboprop purchases, see our turboprop engine sourcing guide. For turboshaft purchases, see our turboshaft engine sourcing guide.
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 12 October 2026, all selected lines carried 0% UK duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff data records no anti-dumping or countervailing duties, tariff suspensions or attached import controls for these lines. Import VAT is separate from customs duty.
Confirm the commodity code using the engine design, rated output and whether the shipment contains an engine or parts. These descriptions are broader than micro engines. For the wider equipment context, see generators. For casing purchases, see our guide to sourcing gas turbine casings.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Other gas turbines, power not exceeding 5 000 kW | 8411 81 00 90 | 0% | None |
| Other turbojets, thrust not exceeding 25 kN | 8411 11 00 90 | 0% | None |
| Other parts of turbojets or turbopropellers | 8411 91 00 90 | 0% | None |
| Other gas turbine parts, not separately specified | 8411 99 00 99 | 0% | None |
Specify the engine and its installation
State the application, fuel specification, fuel inlet pressure, continuous output, ambient conditions and duty cycle. For shaft-output engines, specify coupling, rotation, mounting and driven equipment. For turbojets, specify thrust and test conditions. Agree the controller, starting system, lubrication arrangements, exhaust connection, maintenance access and spare parts included. For diffuser procurement, see our gas turbine exhaust diffuser sourcing guide. For vane procurement, see our gas turbine stator vane sourcing guide.
For complete machinery placed on the Great Britain market, confirm the applicable technical-file, declaration of conformity and UKCA or CE marking requirements with the relevant authority or your customs broker. If supplied as partly completed machinery, it must come with a declaration of incorporation and assembly instructions. Ask for documents matching the exact supplied configuration and an English manual.
For an installation in England or Wales, ask the operator to check environmental permitting before ordering: both medium combustion plant and specified generator regulations can apply to generators. Obtain rated thermal input as well as useful output, and describe the intended fuel, operating pattern and other generators at the site.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: A trial stationary micro gas turbine engine, illustrative only under 8411 81 00 90, invoiced at £28,000 free on board, with £4,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £32,000. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £32,000, so it is £6,400. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Identity: match the engine model, serial number, controller and supplied accessories against the order and documents.
Running test: use the agreed fuel and load; record output, fuel consumption, vibration and exhaust temperature through starting, steady running and shutdown.
Protection: have the supplier demonstrate the agreed overspeed, flame-failure and overtemperature shutdown functions using its documented test method.
Arrival: check mounts, connectors, fuel fittings and exhaust parts for damage; inspect inlet protection and confirm preservation and storage instructions. Plan the checks through quality inspection.

What goes wrong
Peak output quoted as continuous output, different ambient test conditions and an unsuitable fuel supply can leave the engine short of usable power. Poor rotor balance, damaged bearings, leaking fuel connections and incompatible controllers are points to investigate during acceptance testing.
An engine intended for incorporation can arrive with paperwork describing a complete machine, while exhaust routing, guarding and control interfaces remain unresolved. Agree the supply boundary and commissioning responsibilities in writing. Use testing and certification support to review the proposed configuration before paying the balance.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For machinery and equipment, see machinery imports.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on micro gas turbine engines from China?
The selected engine and parts lines under heading 8411 carry 0% UK duty from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty recorded in the supplied tariff data.
Which commodity code covers a stationary micro gas turbine engine?
Consider 8411 81 00 90 for other gas turbines within its power description. A micro turbojet has a different line. Confirm the engine design and rated output before declaring.
What documents should come with an engine for incorporation?
If supplied as partly completed machinery, it must be accompanied by a declaration of incorporation and assembly instructions. Ask for documents identifying the configuration you are buying.
What should I test before accepting a micro gas turbine engine?
Test continuous output using the agreed fuel and ambient conditions. Check starting, vibration, fuel leaks, shutdown protection and controller compatibility, then match the results to the engine serial number.
