Duty on lighter burner nozzles

Heading 9613 covers lighters and their parts, excluding flints and wicks. Burner nozzles supplied as lighter parts belong within the parts line, 9613 90 00 00. The table shows nozzle applications sharing this line. For complete products, see our lighter sourcing guide.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 5 October 2026, the parts line carries 0% duty for goods from China, with no listed anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspension or import control. The supplied tariff data attach CITES import and export controls to refillable pocket lighters and other complete lighters. If these accompany the nozzles, ask your customs broker to confirm the applicable requirements.

Confirm the commodity code using the drawing, intended lighter model and description of the goods as shipped. Describe whether the order contains bare nozzles or assemblies incorporating other parts. For the tax calculation, see UK import duty and VAT.

Specify the nozzle and its mating parts

Provide a drawing and an approved sample. Specify material, outlet bore, passage geometry, overall dimensions, mounting method and surface finish. Identify the mating valve, burner holder, fuel and intended flame type. Agree tolerances and a method for checking passages that cannot be inspected visually.

For consumer products supplied in Great Britain, the General Product Safety Regulations 2005 require safe products. Importers share responsibility for consumer-product safety. As a purchasing check, assess the nozzle fitted to its intended lighter, including ignition, flame stability, heating and gas leakage around mating connections. Agree the test conditions with a competent laboratory through testing and certification.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative repair-stock order of replacement lighter burner nozzles; FOB and freight values are illustrative under 9613 90 00 00, invoiced at £2,500 free on board, with £590 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £3,090. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £3,090, so it is £618. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Identity and fit: compare sampled nozzles with the approved drawing, check mounting dimensions and assemble them with the intended valve and holder.

Passages and finish: check outlet shape, blocked passages, burrs, machining debris, cracks and damaged mating surfaces.

Operating behaviour: use a controlled test setup to check ignition, flame direction, stability and extinguishing in the intended lighter assembly.

Packing and batch identity: check that variants remain separated, outlets are protected and package references match the inspection records. See quality inspection explained.

What goes wrong

An outlet that looks like the sample can have a different internal passage. Burrs or debris can restrict flow; altered bore geometry can change flame behaviour. A nozzle may fit loosely, sit at the wrong height or direct the flame towards neighbouring parts.

Avoid accepting appearance alone as proof of compatibility. Retain the approved assembly, record the drawing revision and compare production samples in the same fixture. If the factory changes the nozzle or its mating components, repeat the agreed assembly checks before accepting the batch.

Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For own-brand ranges, see sourcing for brands.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on lighter burner nozzles from China?

The supplied tariff data show 0% duty under 9613 90 00 00, with no listed anti-dumping or countervailing duty.

What should I send a Chinese nozzle factory?

Send the drawing, approved sample, mating valve and holder details, intended fuel and flame type. Agree material, passage geometry, tolerances and assembly checks.

Can I approve a nozzle from photographs?

Photographs cannot establish internal passage dimensions or operating compatibility. Check physical samples against the drawing and test them in the intended lighter assembly.

Should I test the nozzle or the complete lighter?

Check nozzle dimensions separately, then assess operating behaviour in the intended lighter. A component inspection alone does not show how the assembled product behaves.
