Sourcing instant cameras and camera flashes
Photographic cameras other than digital cameras from China, including instant print cameras, film and disposable cameras, flashguns and flash parts, pay 0% UK duty with no anti-dumping duty. Cameras with Bluetooth or wifi are radio equipment, and battery-powered cameras and flashes bring WEEE and battery obligations. Cambridge China Bridge sources cameras and flashes.
Instant, film and disposable cameras, camera flashes and parts from China pay 0% UK duty. Radio and battery rules, flash safety and a worked example.

0% duty
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 26 September 2026, underwater and aerial survey cameras, instant print cameras, disposable cameras, other film cameras, electronic discharge lamp flashlight apparatus, other flash apparatus and parts of heading 9006 carried 0% duty on goods from China, with no anti-dumping measure. Digital still and video cameras are in heading 8525 and photographic film in heading 3702, so confirm the commodity code.

Radio, electrical and battery rules
Instant cameras and flashes that pair with a phone by Bluetooth or wifi are radio equipment under the Radio Equipment Regulations 2017 and need UKCA or CE marking and a declaration of conformity. Flashguns charge a capacitor to a high voltage, so the housing, battery door and any service warnings must stop users reaching live parts, and mains chargers supplied with them fall under the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.
Battery-powered cameras and flashes are electrical equipment for WEEE, and batteries supplied in the box bring battery producer obligations. Instant film packs and film bought separately have their own codes and supply chains, so agree who supplies the film before promoting a camera.
Worked duty example
For a made-up shipment of 5,000 instant print cameras under 9006 40 00 00, add the £3,000 of freight and insurance to the £150,000 free-on-board price and customs sees £153,000. Duty on instant cameras is zero, leaving import VAT of £30,600, 20% of the customs value. For a VAT-registered buyer that is a cash-flow cost rather than a lasting one. The duty and VAT guide walks through the calculation.
What goes wrong
Cameras fail on the mechanism, light-tightness and the flash. Film transport and ejection rollers jam or scratch prints, light leaks fog film, the exposure meter under- or over-exposes, and viewfinders do not match the frame. Flashes misfire, recycle slowly or overheat, battery contacts corrode, and phone apps for connected models fail to install or pair.
Shoot a set of test exposures with real film on samples in bright and dim light, check prints for light leaks and roller marks, test flash firing and recycle time over many cycles, check battery doors and contacts, test pairing and the app on current phones, and check the declaration of conformity for connected models.
