Human hair bundles for wig making from China
Human hair that has been dressed, thinned, bleached or otherwise worked, and wool, other animal hair or textile materials prepared for making wigs, from China pay 0% UK duty, with no anti-dumping duty. Bundles and bulk hair are bought on origin, cuticle alignment, length, weight and colour, and sellers should document how the hair was collected.
Dressed, bleached or otherwise worked human hair, and animal hair and textiles prepared for wig making, from China pay 0% UK duty. Grades, origin, tests.

0% duty
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 27 September 2026, human hair, dressed, thinned, bleached or otherwise worked, and wool or other animal hair or other textile materials prepared for use in making wigs or the like, heading 6703, carried 0% on goods from China, with no anti-dumping measure.
Finished wigs, hair extensions with clips or wefts made up as articles, and false eyelashes are under heading 6704 at 2% (see our wigs and hair extensions guide), and unworked human hair under 0501, so confirm the commodity code from how far the hair has been worked.

Origin, ethics and animal hair
Buyers and retailers increasingly ask where human hair came from and whether donors consented, so ask the supplier for a written account of collection and processing, and do not repeat claims such as single-donor or virgin hair unless the supplier can support them.
Animal hair that has not been washed or treated can fall under animal by-product controls; hair prepared for wig making is normally washed and processed, but confirm with the Animal and Plant Health Agency if the goods are close to raw.
Specifying hair
Specify hair type (remy with aligned cuticles, or non-remy), origin claim, texture (straight, body wave, curly), length and length distribution, weight per bundle, colour and whether dyed or bleached, chemical treatment, and packing.
Worked duty example
Suppose, purely for illustration, you import 300 kg of processed human hair bundles under 6703 00 00 00. At £60,000 free on board and £1,200 to ship and insure, the customs value is £61,200. With 0% duty on hair bundles, the only charge is import VAT: 20% of £61,200, or £12,240. VAT-registered businesses usually recover that in their next return. The method is set out in how UK import duty and VAT work.
Inspection checklist
Quality: check cuticle direction on samples, comb for tangling and shedding, and wash a sample to see whether colour or texture changes.
Weight and length: weigh bundles and measure length distribution against the order, since short hair hidden inside bundles is a common short-change.
Identity: burn-test or send a sample to a laboratory if synthetic or animal fibre mixed in is suspected.
What goes wrong
Hair orders fail on blending, weight and processing. Remy hair is mixed with non-remy or synthetic fibre and tangles, bundles are underweight or short inside, silicone coatings hide damage until the first wash, and colour changes after washing.
Wash-test samples, weigh and measure bundles, and approve a reference sample. See our quality inspection guide.
Cambridge China Bridge sources processed hair for UK wig makers and salons, and has no minimum order of its own; the factory's minimum per grade applies. See small orders.
