Sourcing quartz injector tubes from China

Fused quartz injector tubes within heading 7020 pay 0% UK duty from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty recorded. Classification depends on the finished article and intended use, rather than quartz material alone. Check outlet geometry, purity and joint integrity. Cambridge China Bridge sources fused quartz injector tubes.

Zero duty, with classification checked

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, heading 7020 covers other articles of glass. Other finished fused quartz or fused silica articles fall within 7020 00 10 90. The table shows injector-tube forms sharing that line, subject to classification confirmation. Laboratory glassware has its own heading. Compare the wider fused quartz furnace-tube guide.

The supplied tariff record shows 0% duty on goods from China, no anti-dumping or countervailing measures and no suspensions. It attaches cat-and-dog-fur import and export controls to 7020 00 10 90. Imports and exports of that fur and products made from it are banned. Specify tubes without such material and ask your customs broker to confirm the declaration requirement attached to the control.

The separate 7020 00 05 00 description covers quartz reactor tubes and holders designed for semiconductor diffusion and oxidation furnaces. Do not assume an injector meets that description merely because it enters a furnace. Give your broker the drawing, material certificate and intended use; follow the commodity code guide.

Injector geometry, material and connections

Specify the fused quartz grade, purity, hydroxyl content, bore, outside diameter, wall thickness, length and straightness. Draw outlet-hole size, position and direction, bends, flange faces and sealing surfaces. Identify the equipment interface and agree which dimensions control fit. Request a batch-linked material certificate and an approved sample.

Agree cleaning, drying and protective packaging, together with a test method for flow distribution and joint leakage suited to the intended service. For UK sale, suppliers remain responsible for meeting their applicable legal obligations. Identify the rules relevant to the actual product and intended use before accepting supplier paperwork; agree operating limits and handling instructions.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: 100 made-to-drawing fused quartz injector tubes for replacement stock, illustrative under 7020 00 10 90, invoiced at £15,000 free on board, with £1,200 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £16,200. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £16,200, so it is £3,240. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Material: match batch certificates to the supplied tubes; check purity, hydroxyl content, bubbles and inclusions against the purchase specification.

Geometry: measure the bore, wall, straightness, bends and sealing faces; check outlet-hole position and direction against the approved drawing.

Joints and stress: inspect fused joints for cracks and distortion; examine residual stress and perform the agreed leakage and thermal-cycle checks.

Cleanliness and packing: inspect the bore for residue and blocked outlets; check individual protection, end chips and transit damage during arrival inspection.

What goes wrong

A tube can fit the connection yet deliver gas to the wrong location because its outlets or bend orientation differ from the drawing. Distorted sealing faces cause poor seating, while thin areas beside fused joints and chipped ends become failure points. Inspect these features before installation rather than accepting overall length alone.

Unapproved quartz grades, inclusions and cleaning residue can make a dimensionally correct tube unsuitable for the process. Keep certificates, inspection results and rejected pieces linked to their batch. Agree replacement acceptance criteria and packing before shipment.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on fused quartz injector tubes from China?

The supplied tariff record shows 0% duty for heading 7020 goods from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty. Confirm the finished tube's classification before declaring it.

Which commodity code should I use for quartz injector tubes?

7020 00 10 90 covers other fused quartz or fused silica articles. Confirm it from the drawing and use; do not automatically classify an injector as a semiconductor reactor tube.

What should I send a Chinese injector-tube factory?

Send the approved drawing, quartz grade, purity and hydroxyl requirements, outlet geometry, sealing details, cleaning specification and acceptance tests.

How do I check quartz injector tubes before installation?

Check material records, bore and outlet geometry, sealing faces, fused joints, cleanliness and transit damage. Use the agreed leakage and thermal-cycle tests before releasing the batch.
