Sourcing flue gas analysers from China
Flue gas analysers from China carry 0% UK duty under the gas or smoke analysis lines of heading 9027. Electronic models must meet applicable electromagnetic compatibility requirements before sale in Great Britain. Match calibration and monitoring suitability to the intended use. Cambridge China Bridge sources flue gas analysers.

Zero duty on flue gas analysers
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 16 October 2026, the selected lines carry 0% duty on goods from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspension or attached import control. Heading 9027 covers physical and chemical analysis instruments, including gas or smoke analysis apparatus. Electronic analysers fall within 9027 10 10 00; the non-electronic line is 9027 10 90 00.
The supplied heading data also lists an export control of mercury under 9027 89 90 00. That is a different line from the gas-analysis lines shown here. If a supplier proposes that code, the UK Trade Tariff attaches the control and the importer should confirm the requirement with their customs broker.
Confirm the commodity code using the analyser’s function, operating principle and supplied components. Separately supplied probes, sensors and consumables need their own classification check. The spectrophotometer guide covers another instrument family within the wider heading.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electronic handheld flue gas analysers | 9027 10 10 00 | 0% | None |
| Non-electronic gas or smoke analysis apparatus | 9027 10 90 00 | 0% | None |
| Analyser parts and accessories, subject to classification | 9027 90 00 00 | 0% | None |
Specify gases, sampling and intended use
State whether the analyser is for boiler servicing, combustion adjustment or stack-emissions monitoring. Specify measured gases, sensor technology, measuring range, accuracy, response and recovery behaviour, cross-sensitivity, and whether reported values are measured or calculated. Agree probe material, hose compatibility, condensate handling, filters, pressure measurement, data export and replacement-sensor support.
For electronic models liable to generate electromagnetic disturbance, check electromagnetic compatibility compliance. Obtain the model-specific declaration and supporting reports; relevant English instructions must accompany the apparatus. Check electrical safety scope for the analyser and mains charger separately, and obtain hazardous-substance compliance evidence for equipment within scope.
For monitoring in England under the Environment Agency’s low-risk medium combustion plant and specified generator guidance, portable systems must meet the relevant monitoring certification scheme requirements. Ask for certification covering the exact model and intended measurements. Commercial importers selling electrical equipment must also address annual producer registration.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative batch of handheld flue gas analysers with probes under 9027 10 10 00, invoiced at £10,000 free on board, with £900 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £10,900. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £10,900, so it is £2,180. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Gas response: compare sampled instruments against agreed reference gases, checking zero, span, recovery and repeatability against the purchase specification. Match calibration records to instrument serial numbers.
Sampling path: check probe connections, hose leaks, pump operation, filter seating and condensate traps. Inspect for transport damage and confirm that the supplied probe suits the intended flue.
Reporting: compare displayed and exported results, units, fuel settings and correction settings with the approved sample. Check that calculated readings are clearly distinguishable from direct measurements.
Documents and service: match model names across labels, declarations, reports and manuals. Confirm sensor replacement and recalibration arrangements. Use quality inspection to record acceptance checks.

What goes wrong
A leaking sampling hose can dilute the sample; condensate can reach sensors if the trap is poorly arranged. Sensor drift, cross-sensitivity and incorrect fuel settings can produce plausible but misleading readings. Test the complete sampling assembly rather than accepting a display demonstration.
A supplier may offer a combustion-service instrument for a monitoring job without demonstrating suitability. Set the intended use before ordering, and match certification claims and calibration records to the delivered model. Agree who supplies replacement sensors and who recalibrates the instrument after repair.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on flue gas analysers from China?
The electronic and non-electronic gas or smoke analysis lines carry 0% duty in the supplied tariff data, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty.
Can a CE mark replace a calibration certificate?
Ask for both the relevant conformity documentation and serial-linked calibration results. Assess measurement performance against your agreed specification.
Does every flue gas analyser need emissions-monitoring certification?
Specify the monitoring job. The Environment Agency’s low-risk medium combustion plant and specified generator guidance requires portable systems to meet the relevant certification scheme requirements.
What should I ask the Chinese factory before ordering?
Ask which gases are measured, which values are calculated, how calibration is documented, how condensate is managed, and how replacement sensors and recalibration are supported.
