Sourcing fibre extruding and texturing machines
Machines for extruding, drawing, texturing or cutting man-made textile materials from China, such as melt-spinning extruders, draw-texturing machines and staple cutters, pay 0% UK duty on both lines of heading 8444, with no anti-dumping duty. They must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008; the work is in the acceptance test and spares.

0% duty
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 29 October 2026, heading 8444 covers machines for extruding, drawing, texturing or cutting man-made textile materials. Both lines carried 0% on goods from China, with no anti-dumping measure.
Spinning and winding machines are covered in our spinning and winding machines guide, and parts in our textile machinery parts guide; confirm the commodity code.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping duty on China |

Machinery safety
Machinery placed on the GB market must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, with a declaration of conformity and UKCA or CE marking, and the electrical equipment must be safe. Ask for the technical file summary, risk assessment, guarding and interlock design, heater and extruder temperature safety, and English manuals before shipment.
Specifying the line
Specify polymer, denier range and output, number of positions or spinnerets, winding speed, heater type, godets and take-up, control system, energy use, installation footprint, utilities, and the spares package and commissioning support. Agree a factory acceptance test on your polymer with measurable output and quality targets.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: one polyester draw-texturing machine under 8444 00 90 00, invoiced at £180,000 free on board, with £9,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £189,000. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £189,000, so it is £37,800. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

What goes wrong
Fibre machinery projects fail on output, safety documents and support. Output falls short of the brochure on your polymer, guarding and documents do not meet GB requirements, and spares and remote support are slow once the machine is running.
