Sourcing electric wall chasers from China

Electric wall chasers from China attract 2% duty under the electric-tool lines shown; separately classified parts carry 0%. Confirm the code from the cutting mechanism. For sale in Great Britain, new machinery needs CE or UKCA marking, a declaration of conformity and English instructions. Cambridge China Bridge sources electric wall chasers.

UK duty and wall-chaser classification

Heading 8467 covers tools for working in the hand, including tools with a self-contained electric motor. Electric wall chasers cut channels for cables or pipes. The table gives candidate electric-tool lines and a parts line, rather than confirmed classifications for every wall-chaser design. See the wider hand-held power tools guide.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, the selected electric-tool lines carried 2% duty for goods from China and the selected parts line carried 0%. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duties, suspensions or attached import controls for these lines. Absence of a tariff control does not replace machinery safety checks.

Give your customs broker the cutting mechanism, power source, photographs, manual and details of separately shipped parts. Confirm whether the tool belongs in a grinding, sawing or other electric-tool line before declaring it. Use finding your commodity code to organise that check.

Specify the channel and extraction connection

Specify the wall material, required channel width and depth, blade arrangement, blade diameter and bore, spacers, depth adjustment, supply voltage, plug and cable. Agree which blades, case and service parts are included. Test a production-representative sample on the intended material with the intended extractor, recording cutting progress, channel dimensions and adjustment stability.

HSE advises on-tool extraction for chasing concrete, using an H or M class extraction unit with a suitable flow rate and secure hose connections. It also says respiratory protection is needed because extraction does not capture all silica dust. Specify the extraction port and hose fit together; a dust outlet alone does not demonstrate dust control.

For placing new machinery on the Great Britain market, require CE or UKCA marking, a declaration of conformity and English instructions. Match the paperwork and technical evidence to the exact model, guard and electrical configuration. Confirm with the relevant authority which additional electrical, electromagnetic compatibility and battery obligations apply to the supplied configuration.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: 2 corded electric wall chasers; illustrative order, subject to code confirmation under 8467 29 85 00, invoiced at £2,025 free on board, with £52 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £2,077. Duty at 2% is £41.54. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £2,118.54, so it is £423.71. Import taxes total £465.25; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £41.54 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Identity: match model markings, declaration, instructions and supplied accessories to the approved sample and purchase specification.

Cutting assembly: check guard attachment, blade seating, spacers, spindle locking and depth adjustment with the tool isolated from power.

Extraction: check the agreed hose fits securely, the port is unobstructed and the shroud remains correctly positioned through the agreed cutting trial.

Loaded trial: check channel width and depth, tracking, switch operation, adjustment movement and signs of overheating under the agreed test conditions. Record noise and vibration information alongside the result.

What goes wrong

A quotation can describe channel width without identifying the blades and spacers that produce it. A substituted blade bore, loose depth stop or mismatched hose can undermine the approved sample. Freeze those details in the purchase specification and compare delivered tools with the sample before release.

A no-load demonstration does not establish cutting performance or effective extraction. Another model's test report does not establish the delivered model's compliance. Resolve mismatched documents, guard changes and failed loaded trials before accepting the batch; use testing and certification support where the evidence needs specialist review.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on electric wall chasers from China?

The selected electric-tool lines carry 2%; the selected separately classified parts line carries 0%. The supplied tariff record lists no trade remedies. Confirm the exact code from the tool's design.

Can I sell a CE-marked wall chaser in Great Britain?

New machinery can use CE or UKCA marking, with a declaration of conformity and English instructions. Check the exact model's compliance evidence; the mark alone is insufficient.

Is a dust extraction socket enough for concrete chasing?

No. HSE advises suitable on-tool extraction with an H or M class extractor, correct flow and secure connections. Respiratory protection is also needed because extraction does not capture all silica dust.

What should I test before accepting wall chasers?

Test the intended wall material with the specified blades and extractor. Check channel dimensions, depth-stop stability, tracking, guard attachment, hose fit and cutting performance under load.
