Sourcing DIN-rail terminal blocks from China

Ordinary DIN-rail wire terminal blocks from China carry 0% UK duty under 8536 90 10 00, rather than the wider heading's 0% to 2% range. Check the electrical safety rules against the voltage rating and whether the blocks are sold separately or imported for further manufacture. Cambridge China Bridge sources DIN-rail terminal blocks.

0% duty on ordinary wire terminal blocks

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 3 October 2026, ordinary wire terminal blocks under 8536 90 10 00 carry 0% duty from China. The supplied tariff data records no anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no suspension on this line. Heading 8536 covers connecting, switching and protective apparatus for voltages not exceeding 1,000 V.

The table shows different terminal-block designs sharing the wire-connections line, rather than different tariff rates. The recorded control is mercury export control; no import control is listed for this line. Ask your customs broker to confirm the applicable measures for the actual shipment.

Confirm the commodity code against the datasheet and function, especially for blocks incorporating fuses, switching or electronics. The wider heading guide covers breakers, switches and other connectors. See import duty and VAT for the calculation.

Specify the clamp, rail and complete terminal system

Specify screw, spring or push-in clamping; accepted conductor sizes and types; ferrule compatibility; stripping length; rated current and voltage; terminal width; and the rail profile. Identify feed-through, protective-earth, disconnect and multi-level variants separately. List matching bridges, end plates, end stops and markers by part number. Approve a sample assembled on your actual rail with your intended wire.

For separately supplied equipment within the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016, confirm with the relevant authority which technical documentation, declaration of conformity, CE or UKCA marking and importer identification are required. The voltage scope includes 50 to 1,000 V alternating current and 75 to 1,500 V direct current. Confirm the supply route: official guidance distinguishes products imported for further manufacture from components marketed separately.

Check the hazardous-substance rules against the product and intended application. For products in scope, request supporting technical documentation and the declaration of conformity. Match material evidence to the insulating body and metal contacts. Use testing and certification support to agree the evidence needed for the exact model.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order, not a quote: 10,000 screw-clamp DIN-rail terminal blocks under 8536 90 10 00, invoiced at £12,000 free on board, with £600 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £12,600. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £12,600, so it is £2,520. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Rail fit: assemble sampled blocks, end plates and end stops on the specified rail; check retention, alignment and removal without cracked clips.

Wire grip: fit the specified conductors and ferrules; check insertion, clamping, pull resistance and release against the agreed specification.

Electrical performance: check continuity, contact resistance, insulation and temperature-rise results against the approved model; verify protective-earth continuity through the rail connection.

Identity and accessories: compare moulded markings, ratings, batch identification, bridges and markers with the approved sample and packing list. Repeat these checks on arrival. See quality inspection.

What goes wrong

A block can fit the rail yet clamp the wire poorly. Watch for weak springs, stripped screw threads, cracked insulating bodies and bridges that sit loosely or connect the wrong positions. Similar-looking accessories may have different mating geometry. Reject substitutions until the assembled system has been checked.

A report for a neighbouring model does not establish the ordered block's performance. Compare the model, conductor range, rating and materials with the goods. Blocks imported for further manufacture are not considered placed on the Great Britain market under the electrical safety guidance; the finished-product manufacturer remains responsible for compliance before sale.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on DIN-rail terminal blocks from China?

Ordinary wire terminal blocks under 8536 90 10 00 carry 0% duty in the supplied tariff data, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no suspension.

Do DIN-rail terminal blocks need CE or UKCA marking?

Check the voltage rating and supply route. Separately marketed equipment within the electrical safety rules needs conformity evidence and marking; imports for further manufacture are treated differently.

Can I mix terminal blocks and bridges from different factories?

Specify approved combinations and test the assembled system. Similar appearance does not establish matching bridge pitch, contact engagement or rail retention.

What should I check when terminal blocks arrive?

Check model and batch identity, rail fit, insulation damage, wire grip, protective-earth continuity and accessory compatibility against the approved sample and agreed inspection specification.
