Sourcing differential pressure switches from China

Differential pressure switches confirmed within heading 9026 carry 0% UK duty from China across the supplied lines. Classification depends on the actual function and construction; the product name alone is insufficient. Electronic models within electromagnetic compatibility rules need conformity checks. Cambridge China Bridge sources differential pressure switches.

Duty and classification for differential pressure switches

Heading 9026 covers instruments measuring or checking pressure and other variables of liquids or gases. The table gives pressure-instrument candidates, related gauges and parts. These are not interchangeable codes for a complete differential pressure switch. Confirm the actual measuring, switching and control functions rather than assuming that every switch belongs here.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, all listed lines carried 0% duty for goods from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measures or suspensions recorded. Pressure-instrument lines attach mercury import controls; the electronic and other pressure-instrument lines also list mercury export controls. Official guidance concerns intentionally added mercury. Obtain a mercury-free material declaration; the importer should confirm the attached import-control requirement with their customs broker.

Confirm the commodity code using the operating description, construction, circuit diagram and supplied components. The pressure transmitters guide covers the wider heading. For the import tax calculation, see UK import duty and VAT.

Specify the trip point, reset point and pressure ports

State whether the switch monitors a ventilation filter, fan, pump or liquid circuit. Specify the medium, differential pressure range, trip point, reset point, acceptable repeatability and mounting orientation. Distinguish differential pressure from the pressure each port must withstand. Agree behaviour when a sensing tube disconnects or the electrical supply fails.

Specify high-pressure and low-pressure port identification, tubing or thread connections, diaphragm and seal materials, contact arrangement and electrical load. For electronic models, agree supply requirements, adjustment method and retention of settings after power loss. Approve a sample using the intended tubing and mounting arrangement.

For apparatus that may fall within electromagnetic compatibility rules, confirm with the relevant authority the importer's obligations for checking the manufacturer's conformity assessment and providing importer identification and a postal address, including where those details should appear. For potentially explosive atmospheres, check category-specific conformity documents and markings against the actual model. Arrange testing and certification checks.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order of 800 electronic differential pressure switches, assuming classification in this line under 9026 20 20 00, invoiced at £3,500 free on board, with £800 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £4,300. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £4,300, so it is £860. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Switching: increase and decrease differential pressure against a calibrated reference; record trip and reset points, repeatability and any contact chatter.

Connections: check port identification, threads, tubing fit, seals and terminal layout against the approved sample; test the fitted pressure connections for leakage.

Operation: test the agreed orientation, adjustment mechanism, contact behaviour and response to disconnected tubing or loss of supply.

Documents: match model identification to test records, instructions and applicable conformity documents. Record results and defects during inspection, and repeat functional checks on arrival.

What goes wrong

A switch can trip at the agreed pressure yet reset at an unsuitable point, causing repeated cycling or a persistent alarm. Reversed sensing tubes, blocked pressure taps, condensation and a different mounting orientation can change behaviour in service. Test with the intended installation arrangement rather than accepting a demonstration with loose tubing.

A diaphragm suitable for clean air may be unsuitable for the buyer's liquid or vapour. Contact ratings may also fail to match the intended electrical load. Keep the approved materials, circuit arrangement and acceptance tests tied to the supplied model; investigate substitutions before accepting the shipment.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on differential pressure switches from China?

The supplied heading 9026 lines carry 0% duty from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measures recorded. Confirm that the actual switch belongs in this heading before using these rates.

Which commodity code covers a differential pressure switch?

Confirm the measuring, switching and control functions and whether it is electronic. The table contains candidates and related goods, not a universal switch code. Give your broker the operating description and circuit diagram.

How do I test a differential pressure switch?

Apply rising and falling differential pressure against a calibrated reference. Record trip and reset points, repeatability and contact chatter using the agreed mounting orientation and sensing connections.

What documents should I check before selling electronic models?

For apparatus within electromagnetic compatibility rules, check the manufacturer's conformity assessment and importer identification. For explosive atmospheres, also match category-specific documents and markings to the model.
