Sourcing tyre pressure sensors from China

Tyre pressure sensors classified as electronic pressure instruments under heading 9026 carry 0% UK duty from China. Wireless models need radio-equipment conformity checks before sale in Great Britain. Match the vehicle protocol and valve assembly before ordering. Cambridge China Bridge sources tyre pressure sensors.

Duty and classification

Heading 9026 covers instruments measuring or checking pressure and other variables of liquids or gases. Electronic tyre pressure sensors are candidates for 9026 20 20 00. The table also includes related mechanical tyre pressure instruments and instrument parts, rather than treating every row as an electronic sensor. See the wider pressure transmitters guide.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, the selected lines carry 0% duty for goods from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measure and no suspension listed. The pressure-instrument lines attach mercury import controls; the electronic and other pressure-instrument lines also list mercury export controls. Official guidance says the controls concern intentionally added mercury. Ask for a mercury-free material declaration and have your customs broker confirm the applicable import-control requirement.

Confirm the commodity code using the sensor's function, construction and supplied components. Submit complete monitoring kits and separately supplied valves for their own classification checks. Do not assume that the sensor's code covers every item in a kit.

Vehicle compatibility and wireless evidence

Specify the vehicle applications, receiver compatibility, radio frequency, communication protocol and programming method. Agree whether sensors arrive programmed, require cloning or need vehicle relearning. State valve construction, wheel fit, pressure range, accuracy, temperature behaviour, battery design and the agreed method for checking remaining battery condition.

For wireless models sold in Great Britain, the importer must ensure that the manufacturer has completed the relevant conformity assessment. Check the technical documentation, declaration of conformity, applicable conformity marking and manufacturer information. Instructions and safety information must be in easily understandable English. Arrange testing and certification checks against the actual model supplied.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order of 800 electronic tyre pressure sensors under 9026 20 20 00, invoiced at £3,500 free on board, with £800 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £4,300. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £4,300, so it is £860. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Compatibility: pair samples with the intended receiver and complete the agreed programming and relearning procedure. Check that sensor identities remain distinguishable.

Pressure readings: compare readings with a calibrated reference across the agreed operating range, including rising and falling pressure and the agreed temperature conditions.

Valve sealing: check wheel fit, supplied seals, valve threads and installation instructions. Test the fitted assembly for leakage rather than checking the loose sensor alone.

Documents and battery: match model identifiers to the declaration and test reports, check the applicable marking and English instructions, and verify battery condition using the agreed method during inspection.

What goes wrong

A matching casing does not establish compatibility. A sensor can transmit yet fail to pair because its protocol or programming differs from the vehicle receiver. Samples tested only with the factory's display leave this unresolved. Approve samples using the intended receiver and retain the programming instructions with the order specification.

Leaks can arise from mismatched valves or seals, while intermittent readings can hide poor battery condition or pressure drift. Keep the approved valve assembly and test method tied to the supplied model. A generic declaration for a different wireless product does not establish that the delivered sensor has completed the relevant conformity assessment.

Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For components and parts, see sourcing for manufacturers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on tyre pressure sensors from China?

Electronic pressure instruments under 9026 20 20 00 carry 0% duty in the supplied tariff facts, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measure. Confirm the classification of the actual sensor or kit.

What compliance documents do wireless tyre pressure sensors need?

For Great Britain, check the manufacturer's conformity assessment, technical documentation, declaration of conformity, applicable marking and manufacturer information. English instructions and safety information must accompany the equipment.

Will a replacement sensor work with any vehicle?

Do not assume compatibility from appearance. Agree the vehicle application, receiver protocol and programming method, then test pairing and relearning with the intended receiver.

Why does the tariff mention mercury controls?

The pressure-instrument lines attach mercury controls. Official guidance concerns intentionally added mercury. Obtain material information and ask your customs broker to confirm how the control applies to the shipment.
