Sourcing concrete 3D printers from China

Concrete 3D printers and the selected related lines from China carry 0% UK duty, with no listed trade remedies. New machinery must be safe before it is placed on the Great Britain market or put into service. Specify the concrete mix, pump and printing envelope together. Cambridge China Bridge sources concrete 3D printers.

Concrete printers: zero duty

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 19 October 2026, heading 8485 covers machines for additive manufacturing. Concrete-deposit machines under 8485 80 10 00 and the selected related lines carry 0% duty from China. The supplied tariff records list no anti-dumping or countervailing measures and no suspensions for these lines.

The tariff attaches import and export waste controls to 8485 80 10 00. England's waste shipment controls apply only where the material is waste. For a shipment from China, ask your customs broker to confirm the attached control's requirements, especially for discarded or non-working equipment; do not treat the tariff entry as an automatic ban on new printers.

Confirm the commodity code from the deposited material and the machine's function. The table includes related cement-deposit machines and parts, rather than interchangeable codes for a concrete printer. Other parts require separate classification checks. See the wider printer guide for other printing technologies.

Specify the mix, pump and printing envelope

Describe the intended components, printing envelope, gantry or robotic arrangement, nozzle and hose layout. Agree the concrete mix, aggregate grading, additives, mixing method and working conditions. Ask the factory to demonstrate pumping and printing with the agreed mix, including corners, pauses and restarts, rather than accepting a video using an unidentified mortar.

Set acceptance criteria for bead dimensions, layer consistency, positional accuracy and cleaning. List the mixer, pump, hoses, controller, software access and spares included in the supply. Agree installation, operator training and who supports pump wear parts and software.

Ask for the exact model's conformity documents, marking details and English operating instructions for review through testing and certification. Include the gantry, pump and control system in that review.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative pilot order of a concrete printer under 8485 80 10 00, invoiced at £60,000 free on board, with £3,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £63,000. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £63,000, so it is £12,600. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Print trial: compare an agreed test piece with its drawing; record bead consistency, corner formation, layer alignment and behaviour after a pause.

Pump and cleaning: check delivery stability, hose connections, leaks, nozzle blockage and access for removing residual concrete.

Safety and documents: have a competent reviewer check guarding, emergency stops, unexpected restart prevention and the documents against the supplied configuration.

Arrival and assembly: check transport damage, secured axes, hose condition, connectors and the packing list; repeat the agreed print trial after assembly. Arrange quality inspection around these acceptance checks.

What goes wrong

A printer demonstrated with the factory's mortar may block or produce uneven beads with the buyer's mix. Pump output and axis movement can drift out of step, while pauses can leave weak-looking joints or hardened material in the hose. Make the material recipe and restart trial part of acceptance.

Transport can disturb alignment or damage connectors. Missing pump components, restricted software access and unavailable wear parts can delay commissioning. Agree a complete supply list and support arrangements before ordering, then check the assembled system rather than relying on separate component demonstrations.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on concrete 3D printers from China?

The supplied tariff records show 0% for concrete-deposit machines under 8485 80 10 00, with no listed anti-dumping or countervailing measures or suspensions.

Can a concrete printer use my local concrete mix?

Ask for a pumping and printing trial with the agreed mix. Specify aggregate grading, additives, hose layout and nozzle together, and assess pauses and restarts.

What safety evidence should I request?

Ask for model-specific conformity documents, marking details and English instructions. Have the assembled gantry, pump and controls reviewed alongside guarding and emergency stops.

Why does the tariff show a waste control?

The concrete-printer line has import and export waste controls attached. England's waste shipment controls apply only to waste; ask your broker to confirm the requirement for your shipment.
