Sourcing bevelled door glass from China

Bevelled annealed glass door panels from China pay 0% UK duty under 7006 00 90 00, with no listed trade remedies. Confirm applicable door-glazing safety requirements with the relevant building control body before installation; bevelling does not make annealed glass safety glass. Duty on unframed bevelled annealed panels

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 4 October 2026, heading 7006 covers glass of headings 7003, 7004 or 7005 that is bent, edge-worked, engraved, drilled, enamelled or otherwise worked, but not framed or fitted with other materials. Unframed bevelled annealed door panels fall within the other worked-glass line, 7006 00 90 00. The table shows product variants sharing that line.

Goods from China carry 0% duty. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing measures, suspensions or attached import controls. Zero customs duty does not establish that annealed glass is suitable for a particular door.

Confirm the commodity code from the actual processing and supplied condition. Toughened or laminated glass belongs under heading 7007; framed panels need classification by the finished article. For wider worked-glass coverage, see the engraved untoughened glass door panel guide.

Specify the bevel and intended door use

State the glass type, annealed condition, finished dimensions, thickness, tolerances and corner shape. Define bevel width, angle, polished finish and which face carries the bevel. Identify any engraving, holes or cut-outs on the drawing. Approve a physical sample showing the bevel at corners and the remaining flat edge that sits inside the glazing rebate.

Annealed glass breaks into sharp pieces. Confirm applicable door-glazing safety requirements with the relevant building control body before installation. In England, ask that body whether suitable robust glazing, small panes or permanent protection are acceptable alternatives to toughened or laminated glass for the intended arrangement. Have the intended arrangement checked before ordering; a decorative bevel alone provides no safety-glass performance.

Consumer products supplied in Great Britain must be safe in normal or reasonably foreseeable use. For building use, ask which construction-product standard and assessment route cover the supplied panel, and obtain the applicable performance declaration and marking evidence. CE marking remains available for construction products in Great Britain.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative mixed-size batch of unframed bevelled annealed glass door panels under 7006 00 90 00, invoiced at £11,000 free on board, with £2,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £13,500. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £13,500, so it is £2,700. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Dimensions: measure finished size, thickness, squareness and any hole or cut-out positions against the approved drawing; trial-fit a sample in the intended rebate.

Bevel and edges: compare bevel width and angle with the sample; check corner junctions, polish, chips, shell-shaped fractures and sharp remaining edges.

Appearance: inspect scratches, bubbles, tint variation and polishing marks under agreed lighting and viewing conditions; compare the batch with the approved sample.

Packing and arrival: check separators, protected corners and crate bracing before dispatch; on arrival, photograph damaged crates and inspect panels for cracks and edge damage. Use the inspection guide to brief the inspector.

What goes wrong

A panel can match the overall dimensions but have a bevel that enters the rebate or leaves uneven visible borders. Poor corner transitions, cloudy polishing and chipped edges spoil the installed appearance. Agree the visible bevel and concealed edge on a sample fitted into the actual door detail.

The larger mistake is ordering annealed panels for a door arrangement that needs safety glass. Settle glazing suitability before production. Keep cracked or chipped arrivals out of installation, record defects by batch and compare replacements with the approved sample.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on bevelled annealed glass door panels from China?

The supplied tariff record, read on 4 October 2026, shows 0% duty under 7006 00 90 00, with no listed anti-dumping or countervailing measures.

Can bevelled annealed glass be used in a door?

Have the relevant building control body confirm whether the arrangement is suitable and which glazing safety requirements apply. In England, ask whether suitable robust glazing, small panes or permanent protection may provide acceptable alternatives to safety glass for the intended installation. Check the intended installation before ordering.

Does bevelling make annealed glass safety glass?

No. Bevelling shapes and polishes the edge; annealed glass still breaks into sharp pieces. Do not accept a bevelled finish as evidence of safety-glass performance.

What should I put on the factory drawing?

Glass type and condition, finished size, thickness, tolerances, bevel width and angle, bevelled face, corner detail, remaining flat edge, and any engraving, holes or cut-outs.
