Sourcing annealed splashback glass from China
Annealed glass splashback panels from China carry 0% UK duty under the other worked-glass line, with no listed trade remedy. Consumer products must be safe for their intended use; annealed glass breaks into sharp pieces, so confirm suitability for heat and impact exposure. Cambridge China Bridge sources annealed glass splashback panels.

Duty on annealed glass splashback panels
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 4 October 2026, heading 7006 covers glass of headings 7003, 7004 or 7005 that is bent, edge-worked, engraved, drilled, enamelled or otherwise worked, but not framed or fitted with other materials. Unframed worked annealed splashback panels fall within the other line, 7006 00 90 00.
Both heading lines carry 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspension or attached import control. The panel variants in the table share the same commodity line; optical glass is outside this guide's scope.
Confirm the commodity code from the actual processing and supplied assembly. Toughened or laminated safety glass belongs under heading 7007. See the wider annealed glass panel guide for related worked panels.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Back-painted annealed glass splashback panels, unframed | 7006 00 90 00 | 0% | None |
Specify the panel and its installation
Specify annealed glass explicitly, along with clear, low-iron or tinted base glass, thickness, tolerances, finished dimensions and edge finish. Supply a drawing showing the installed orientation, socket cut-outs, holes and exposed edges. Agree a physical colour sample using the actual glass and backing coating.
Set acceptance criteria for scratches, chips, colour variation, coating coverage and adhesion. Ask the supplier to confirm compatibility between the backing coating and your proposed adhesive. Agree separators, edge protection, crate bracing and panel identification against the installation drawing.
Consumer products supplied in Great Britain must be safe under the General Product Safety Regulations 2005. Annealed glass breaks into sharp pieces; applications where people could impact the glass usually need safety glass instead. For a hob-adjacent installation, request evidence covering heat exposure, fixing and breakage risks before approving annealed panels. Use testing and certification support to settle the intended application.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Mixed-size annealed glass splashback panels for a trade stock order (illustrative) under 7006 00 90 00, invoiced at £24,000 free on board, with £2,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £26,500. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £26,500, so it is £5,300. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Dimensions and orientation: compare sampled panels with the approved drawing, including thickness, cut-outs, hole positions and the painted face.
Edges and openings: check exposed edges and cut-out corners for chips, shells, sharp areas and cracks before installation.
Colour and coating: compare panels together against the approved sample in consistent light; check coverage and coating adhesion using the agreed method.
Packing and arrival: check separators, edge protection and crate restraint, then record cracked panels, damaged corners and mismatched panel labels. Set these checks in the inspection brief.

What goes wrong
A reversed drawing puts sockets on the wrong side. Colour approved on a different base glass looks different on delivery, while thin or uneven backing leaves visible patches. Chipped cut-outs and edges can be missed when panels remain packed.
An attractive sample does not establish installation suitability. Reject unsupported assumptions about heat or impact exposure, trial the proposed adhesive with the backing coating, and agree how damaged or incorrectly cut panels will be identified before dispatch.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on annealed glass splashbacks from China?
The supplied tariff record, read on 4 October 2026, gives 0% duty for other worked glass under 7006 00 90 00, with no listed anti-dumping or countervailing duty.
Can I use annealed glass behind a hob?
Do not assume suitability. Ask for evidence covering the intended heat exposure, fixing method and breakage risks. A colour sample alone cannot establish suitability.
Are toughened glass splashbacks covered by this code?
No. Toughened and laminated safety glass belong under heading 7007. This guide covers worked annealed panels supplied without frames or other fitted materials.
What should I check when splashback panels arrive?
Check dimensions, drawing orientation, socket cut-outs, polished edges, coating colour and adhesion, panel labels and transport damage before fitting.
