Sourcing ADC ICs from China

Analogue-to-digital converter ICs from China carry 0% UK duty across the listed heading 8542 lines. Confirm the code from the chip's function and construction, and distinguish component purchases from finished equipment compliance. Cambridge China Bridge sources analogue-to-digital converter ICs.

UK duty on converter ICs

Heading 8542 covers electronic integrated circuits. For a standalone analogue-to-digital converter, consider the other integrated circuit lines. The table also includes conditional chapter-note categories and processors or controllers incorporating converters; these are classification alternatives, not interchangeable codes.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, all listed lines carried 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspensions or attached import controls.

Confirm the commodity code using the manufacturer's datasheet and construction details before shipping. For the wider heading, see the operational amplifier IC guide.

Specify the converter and its test conditions

Specify the manufacturer, full ordering code, package, pin arrangement and temperature grade. Record resolution, sampling rate, channel count, input range, reference arrangement, supply voltage and digital interface. Agree whether substitutions are permitted before ordering.

Define acceptance against the datasheet: offset, gain error, linearity, noise and performance at the intended sampling rate. State the reference source, input signal and test temperature so supplier results can be compared with your application.

Official guidance excludes component parts sold business to business from the scope of the hazardous-substance restrictions. The finished assembly's compliance still matters, as explained in the reference guide. Request part-specific material declarations to support that assessment.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 50,000 analogue-to-digital converter ICs on reels under 8542 39 90 00, invoiced at £40,000 free on board, with £600 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £40,600. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £40,600, so it is £8,120. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Identity: match chip markings, package dimensions and reel labels to the full ordering code; investigate mixed lots or inconsistent date codes.

Electrical performance: compare sampled devices with the datasheet under agreed input, reference, supply and temperature conditions; retain results by lot.

Packing: check sealed moisture barrier bags, desiccant and humidity indicators where specified by the manufacturer; inspect leads and protect parts against static.

Traceability: reconcile quantities and lot records with supplier documents, check the supply route and retain a sample from each lot.

What goes wrong

A chip can communicate correctly while producing noisy or inaccurate readings. Wrong reference conditions, inadequate input settling or a different temperature grade can make an apparent equivalent unsuitable. Compare performance under the intended operating conditions before accepting a substitution.

Broker stock can be remarked or recovered from scrap. Mixed lots undermine failure tracing, while poor moisture handling can damage packages during reflow. Agree screening and rejection criteria before shipment, using quality inspection guidance.

Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For components and parts, see sourcing for manufacturers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on converter ICs from China?

The supplied tariff record shows 0% duty across the listed heading 8542 lines, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty. Confirm which line covers the actual chip.

Can I substitute a converter with the same resolution?

Resolution alone is insufficient. Compare sampling rate, noise, linearity, input range, reference, interface, package and temperature grade under your operating conditions.

Do business-to-business converter components fall within RoHS?

Official GB guidance excludes component parts sold business to business from scope. This does not settle the compliance of the finished equipment containing them.

How do I check converter chips for counterfeits?

Prefer franchised supply routes. Match markings and reel labels to traceable records, test samples against the datasheet and agree additional screening for uncertain stock.
