Sourcing aluminium brazing sheet from China
Aluminium brazing sheet from China carries 6% UK duty on the candidate lines shown, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty recorded. Classify it by thickness, shape and layer construction; a suspension for balcony parts does not cover heat-exchanger use. Cambridge China Bridge sources aluminium brazing sheet.

UK duty on aluminium brazing sheet
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, heading 7606 covers aluminium plates, sheets and strip of a thickness exceeding 0.2 mm. This guide concerns brazing sheet for fabricated heat exchangers. The table gives candidate categories, not confirmed classifications for every clad sheet. See the aluminium heat-exchanger fin strip guide for the wider heading.
The supplied tariff record shows 6% duty for goods from China on these lines, with no anti-dumping duty, countervailing duty or attached import controls. The suspension on 7606 12 92 93 is restricted to qualifying sheet for manufacturing balcony parts; it is not a general brazing-sheet relief. The other selected lines have no suspension recorded. Import VAT is normally 20%. For beverage-can material, see our aluminium can body stock guide.
Confirm the commodity code using the mill's layer drawing, alloy composition, thickness and supplied shape. Ask HMRC or your customs broker whether the sheet falls within the UK's carbon border adjustment mechanism from 1 January 2027. Ask the mill for production and emissions information when planning repeat imports. For cookware blanks, see our aluminium cookware circles sourcing guide.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rectangular alloy sheet under 3 mm, specified coil or cut-sheet forms, not backed | 7606 12 92 93 | 6% | None |
| Other rectangular alloy sheet under 3 mm, not backed | 7606 12 92 94 | 6% | None |
| Other rectangular alloy sheet under 3 mm, residual construction category | 7606 12 92 97 | 6% | None |
| Non-rectangular alloy sheet, residual construction category | 7606 92 00 95 | 6% | None |
Core alloy, braze cladding and furnace trial
Specify the core alloy and temper, the braze-cladding alloy on each face, and the cladding proportion and permitted variation. Include total thickness, width, flatness, edge condition and surface cleanliness. State which face meets each adjoining component and whether the sheet is supplied in coils or cut lengths.
Match the material to your actual brazing process, including flux use, furnace atmosphere and forming sequence. Approve a trial using the intended mating materials and joint geometry. Record acceptance criteria for filler flow, joint continuity, distortion and leakage before releasing the bulk order.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 3,000 cut aluminium brazing sheets; illustrative FOB and freight values under 7606 12 92 97, invoiced at £36,000 free on board, with £4,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £40,000. Duty at 6% is £2,400. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £42,400, so it is £8,480. Import taxes total £10,880; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £2,400 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Identity: match mill certificates, coil labels and packing records to the ordered core alloy, cladding alloy and temper; preserve batch identity after cutting.
Dimensions and layers: measure total thickness, width and flatness; examine prepared cross-sections for cladding distribution and agreement with the approved layer drawing.
Surface and packing: check for scratches, oxide patches, oil residue, edge damage and moisture beneath wrapping; inspect representative sheet from inside the pack.
Brazing performance: run production-representative coupons from the delivered batch and check filler flow, joint continuity, distortion and leakage against the agreed criteria. Arrange inspection around these checks.

What goes wrong
A certificate for the core alloy alone does not establish the cladding construction. Uneven cladding, the wrong temper or contaminated surfaces can leave insufficient filler at the joint, cause forming cracks or produce inconsistent brazing. Keep an approved cross-section and trial coupon alongside the purchase specification.
Wet packing can leave staining between sheets, while tight strapping damages edges and affects feeding. Quarantine suspect packs before mixing batches. Investigate leakage using both material evidence and furnace records, rather than accepting a replacement alloy without another trial.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on aluminium brazing sheet from China?
The selected candidate lines carry 6% duty, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty recorded. The balcony-parts suspension is not a general relief for brazing sheet.
Which commodity code covers clad aluminium brazing sheet?
There is no single confirmed code for every construction here. Give your broker the core and cladding composition, layer drawing, total thickness and supplied shape before choosing a table line.
What should I specify when ordering brazing sheet?
Specify core alloy, temper, cladding alloy on each face, cladding proportion, dimensional tolerances and surface condition. Approve a brazing trial with your actual mating parts.
Is a mill certificate enough to accept the shipment?
Use it for batch identity and declared composition, alongside dimensional checks, cladding cross-sections and a production-representative brazing trial. Check packing for moisture and edge damage.
