Duty and controls for passenger door assemblies

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 5 October 2026, heading 8807 covers aircraft parts. Passenger door assemblies fall within the other-parts descriptions for aeroplanes and helicopters, subject to classification confirmation. The table repeats the relevant codes for forward and aft assemblies; door position does not create a separate tariff line. The wider aircraft parts guide covers the rest of the heading.

The relevant lines carry 0% duty for goods from China, with no listed anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no listed suspension. Both attach fluorinated greenhouse gas import control and a DCMS Export Licence measure; the other-parts line also attaches a restriction on entry into free circulation concerning ozone-depleting substances. Products containing banned fluorinated gases cannot be placed on the Great Britain market. Importing ozone-depleting substances into Great Britain requires a licence. Ask your customs broker to confirm applicability and declaration requirements for the assembly.

The DCMS measure concerns cultural-object exports: such exports from Great Britain to destinations outside the UK require a UK export licence. Confirm its relevance with your broker, particularly for historic assemblies. Give the broker the drawing, assembly contents, material declaration and intended use to confirm the commodity code, including any conditions attached to the aircraft-fitting-use line.

Specify the door position and complete assembly

Specify aircraft model and variant, door location, handedness, part number and drawing revision. Define whether the supply includes hinges, latch mechanism, handles, seals, window, trim and any escape-slide interfaces. Record material grades, surface treatment, mounting geometry and the buyer's acceptance criteria for fit, operation and sealing.

For certified civil aircraft, confirm with the relevant aviation authority which sources and release documents are acceptable, including whether an authorised release certificate from an approved production or maintenance organisation is needed. Keep any required certificate with the assembly. Agree how the receiving aviation organisation will review the documents and confirm the intended application before ordering.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: A replacement passenger door assembly, illustrative order under 8807 30 00 99, invoiced at £15,000 free on board, with £800 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £15,800. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £15,800, so it is £3,160. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Identity: match the assembly part number, serial marking and drawing revision to the order and release paperwork.

Geometry: check hinge locations, mounting holes, door contour and latch engagement against the agreed drawing and inspection fixture.

Operation and seals: check handles, latch travel, indications and seal seating using the agreed procedure; inspect seals for cuts and distortion.

Condition: inspect skins, edges, window and coatings for dents, cracks, scratches and corrosion; check transit supports protect hinges and sealing faces. Agree the inspection scope through the inspection guide.

What goes wrong

A door can resemble the specified assembly while having different hinges, latch geometry or slide interfaces. A quote may cover the shell while omitting operating hardware, seals or trim. Resolve the contents against an assembly drawing and parts list, and require written agreement before any substitution.

Transit distortion, damaged seals and mismatched release paperwork can prevent acceptance. Photograph the assembly before packing and on arrival. Isolate damaged or undocumented parts for review; before fitting parts for certified aircraft, confirm the required release documents with the relevant aviation authority.
