China sector fair or UK and European trade show?
Choose a UK or European show if it gives you confirmed meetings with suitable Chinese suppliers. Choose a China sector fair when its relevant exhibitors or agreed factory visits add something your nearer show cannot. Compare named suppliers and meeting outcomes before booking. Cambridge China Bridge can follow up through its own staff in China.

Choose by the buying task
Write down what the visit must resolve: finding alternative manufacturers, comparing finished ranges, discussing a custom design or checking production capability. A nearby show may suit sample comparison and commercial introductions. A China sector fair becomes more useful when you can meet relevant suppliers absent from the nearer show or combine meetings with confirmed factory access.
Compare shows within your product category rather than treating every China fair as interchangeable. Our guide to whether the Canton Fair is worth attending covers broad discovery and phase selection; this decision turns on the suppliers and access available at your particular sector show.
Check relevant exhibitor overlap
Use the organisers' exhibitor directories for the editions you might attend. CIFF Guangzhou publishes companies by furniture section, while Ambiente provides an exhibitor and product search. Build a shortlist around your materials, processes and intended product, then ask each company whether it will attend either show. An older directory is a lead, not confirmation of attendance.
Match company names, websites, factory addresses and contacts across lists. Record confirmed matches, suitable suppliers appearing only at either show, and unresolved identities. Shared product categories do not establish shared exhibitors. Even a confirmed company match needs a check on which samples and staff will attend. No general overlap percentage can answer this for your shortlist.
Book meetings that can settle questions
Send the same brief to suppliers at either location. Ask who will attend, whether they can discuss production changes and whether a technical colleague can join remotely. Request the relevant samples and agree the questions beforehand. A salesperson showing a finished range may be useful for range buying but unable to settle tooling or material changes.
At a UK or European show, clarify whether you are discussing direct factory supply, local distributor stock or an existing brand. Ask who would quote and handle development. At a China sector fair, ask the same questions and arrange technical follow-up. Use factory versus trading company when the exhibitor's role remains unclear.
Make factory access a separate arrangement
Before booking China travel, obtain the production address, an agreed appointment, the host's name and permission to see the processes relevant to your order. Ask whether the line will be operating and whether production takes place elsewhere. Check the journey from the exhibition venue. Being in China does not itself secure factory access.
A meeting in Britain or Europe can lead to the same factory visit later. Ask for the introduction at the booth, then confirm access directly with the proposed host. If you cannot travel, agree a visit brief for someone in China. Follow how to prepare for a factory visit to turn the introduction into a useful production check.

Decide what the extra travel buys
Compare the total travel cost and time away against confirmed opportunities: suppliers you would otherwise miss, access to technical staff and relevant production visits. If the nearby show covers your shortlist and your questions, start there. If the China show adds suitable suppliers and agreed factory access, the longer trip has a clearer purpose.
Leave each meeting with a named contact, an agreed sample or quotation brief, unresolved questions and a follow-up date. Keep sample approval separate from production verification. Cambridge China Bridge's own staff in China can follow up on suppliers met at either location against your agreed brief.
Frequently asked questions
Do the same Chinese suppliers attend shows in China and Europe?
Check the directories for the relevant editions and confirm attendance with each supplier. Match company identities, then check which staff and samples will attend. Shared categories do not prove exhibitor overlap.
Can I source directly from a Chinese exhibitor at a UK show?
Ask whether the exhibitor offers direct factory supply, distributor stock or a branded range. Confirm who will quote and handle development before treating the meeting as a factory introduction.
Does attending a China fair let me visit factories?
Arrange access separately. Confirm the production address, host, appointment and relevant processes before booking travel. Ask whether the line will be operating during your visit.
Should I meet suppliers in Europe before going to China?
That can work if the nearer show covers your shortlist. Use it to compare samples and arrange technical follow-up, then travel to China when confirmed factory visits have a clear purpose.
