Getting started

Can I fit a Chinese bidet seat in a UK bathroom?

Yes, if the exact model and proposed installation are suitable. Before ordering, have your plumber settle backflow protection and water-supplier notification, and your electrician review the supply and bathroom location. Confirm the seat dimensions and model evidence. Cambridge China Bridge can obtain factory documents and samples.

Start with the exact water path

Identify whether you are buying an electric washing seat, an unpowered attachment or a handheld toilet spray. Request a diagram showing the inlet, heater, reservoir, valves, backflow protection and washing outlet, wherever fitted. Send it with photographs of your bathroom to your plumber. Our taps and shower installation guide covers the general water-fitting checks.

Show whether the nozzle sits below the toilet rim and where a flexible handset can reach. Backflow protection must match the highest applicable downstream fluid category. Ask your plumber whether the arrangement needs fluid category 5 protection and which evidence supports the proposed solution. Do not accept a supplied double check valve as sufficient merely because the factory describes it as suitable for toilets.

Settle protection and water-supplier notification

Ask the plumber to draw the proposed protection, identifying any verified internal air gap or separate supply arrangement. An internal tank alone is insufficient evidence of an air gap. If external equipment is proposed, establish space, drainage, maintenance access and how it affects pressure at the seat. Obtain the plumber's written assessment before ordering.

In England and Wales, ask your water supplier whether installing a bidet with an ascending spray or flexible hose requires advance notice and consent, and whether any exception applies. Send your water supplier the exact seat or spray proposal and ask how it is treated, who must notify and whether an exception applies. Keep its response and conditions. For Scotland or Northern Ireland, ask the local supplier to confirm the applicable requirements.

Have the electrician review the bathroom layout

Send the electrician the rating label, installation manual, maximum electrical load, cable length and proposed connection position. Ask them to confirm supply compatibility, circuit capacity, earthing, residual current protection, isolation, bathroom zones and the enclosure's suitability for that location. Agree whether the model can use a suitable socket or needs a fixed connection. Avoid planning around an extension lead or travel adaptor.

For homes in England, official guidance says even non-notifiable electrical installation work should be designed, installed, inspected, tested and certificated. Ask the electrician to determine notification and certification for the actual work before installation. Elsewhere in the UK, have them confirm the local route. For buying electrical stock for sale, use our electrical importing guide alongside this installation review.

Measure the pan and service space

Measure the fixing-hole spacing, distance from the fixings to the front of the pan, pan width and rear clearance to the cistern or wall. Compare the pan profile with the seat's underside and mounting plate. Check fixing access, lid opening, usable seat opening and clearance for the control panel. Ask for a dimensioned drawing and mounting template, then trial a sample.

Have the plumber compare inlet and hose threads, sealing method, hose routing and operating pressure with the existing supply. Confirm whether the appliance takes cold water and heats it internally or needs a mixed supply. Allow access to isolation valves, filters and seat removal. Record the agreed dimensions and connections in your product specification.

Approve the model evidence before paying

Request reports and any claimed approval listing for the exact assembled model, with installation conditions. Match the manufacturer, model suffix, rating label and supplied hoses to the documents. Ask your installers to review backflow tests, water-contact materials, electrical safety and claimed water-ingress protection. Our test-report verification guide explains the document checks.

Do not treat CE or UKCA markings as evidence that the seat fits your pan or that the proposed plumbing arrangement is acceptable. Hold the order until the installers' questions and supplier conditions are resolved. Freeze the reviewed configuration, including protective components, and prohibit unreviewed substitutions. Cambridge China Bridge's staff in China can obtain documents, compare the sample with the agreed specification and check the supplied configuration.

Frequently asked questions

Can I connect a Chinese bidet seat to the toilet supply?

Only proceed after your plumber reviews the exact water path, backflow protection, connections and pressure. A supplied tee and hose do not establish that the proposed installation is suitable.

Is a double check valve enough for a toilet spray?

Do not assume so. Ask your plumber to assess the contamination risk and specify suitable protection, including any air gap or separate supply arrangement, before ordering.

Do I need to tell my water supplier about a bidet?

In England and Wales, ask your water supplier whether bidets with an ascending spray or flexible hose require notification and consent, and whether any exception applies. Ask the supplier to assess your exact proposal and confirm the applicable process before work starts.

Will an electric bidet seat fit my existing toilet?

Compare a dimensioned drawing and template with the fixing holes, pan profile, front length and rear clearance. Trial a sample and have the electrician review the proposed power connection before ordering.
