Ask for a dispatch hold immediately

Open the order history and save the order reference, seller details, goods, payment record and dispatch status. Use the cancellation option if available, then message both the seller and platform support. Ask them to stop packing and dispatch while they review your request. Keep the cancellation acknowledgement; a request sent is not confirmation that dispatch has stopped.

Suggested message: “My child placed this order using my saved card. Please hold dispatch and cancel the order. Confirm whether the parcel has been handed to the carrier and whether you will refund the original payment method.” If already dispatched, request written return instructions before sending anything back. See cancelling a personal China order for the separate cancellation question.

Record what permission your child had

Write down whether you allowed browsing, a particular purchase or broader spending. Record any limits you set and whether this order exceeded them. Note whose shopping account and device were used, how the card was saved, and who entered any security code or approved a banking notification. Ask your child calmly what happened.

Give the bank this account without guessing or describing the payment as a stranger’s fraud when you know your child placed it. Ask the bank to assess whether the payment was authorised, rather than treating a saved card or successful checkout as the whole explanation. Keep screenshots and messages before changing settings.

Contact your UK bank alongside the seller

Use your banking app or the contact details on your card or statement. Say that your child used your saved card, explain the permission given, and identify the affected payment. Ask whether it is pending or completed, what can be done now, and how to prevent further spending. Do not wait for the seller’s reply before making contact.

Ask which payment dispute route fits the facts, what evidence it needs and what deadlines apply. If you approved the purchase but now want to cancel, say so. If the bank declines your request, ask for its written reasons, the evidence it relied on and its complaint procedure. For a company card, tell finance and ask the bank to assess the business account terms.

Track cancellation and refund separately

Ask the seller to confirm the cancellation, refund amount, currency, destination and payment reference in writing. Check your card account rather than relying on an app message saying the refund is complete. Use a supplier card refund not received if the seller says it has refunded you but the credit is missing.

Tell the bank about any seller refund while its investigation is open, and tell the seller if the bank has already credited the payment. Ask the bank whether its credit is provisional. Keep the parcel and packaging intact while return arrangements are unresolved, and record any agreed return address, postage responsibility and tracking.

Remove access and check the controls

Remove the saved card from the shopping account, browser autofill and linked wallet where applicable. Sign out of shared devices, change passwords your child knows and review account recovery access. Enable purchase approval and parental controls where available. Ask the bank whether a card freeze, replacement or merchant restriction suits the situation and what each action would cover.

Check the settings without placing another order, and review order history and bank activity for other purchases. Keep business buying on a separate account and device profile. Use China order and payment approval controls for company purchasing permissions; this guide adds the shared-device and saved-card checks.

Frequently asked questions

Can I stop the order before it ships?

Use the cancellation option and ask the seller and platform support to hold dispatch immediately. Request written confirmation of whether the carrier already has the parcel.

Will my bank refund an order my child placed?

Ask the bank to assess the payment using the actual permission and checkout details. Do not assume a refund simply because a child placed the order.

Should I contact the seller or bank first?

Contact both promptly. Ask the seller to stop dispatch and the bank to assess the payment and prevent further spending. Keep their case references together.

Does deleting the app remove my saved card?

Check the shopping account, browser and linked wallet directly. Remove saved payment access, sign out of shared devices and review purchase approval settings.
