Getting started

Check product labels before packaging is printed

Identify the product rules and sales destination, then check the required wording and location of each detail. Match the product label, packaging and English manual to the actual model, and approve a physical proof before printing. Coordinate the factory checks with Cambridge China Bridge.

Start with the product and destination

Record the intended use, users, configuration and sales destination before reviewing artwork. Check Great Britain and Northern Ireland separately because their rules differ. Use our conformity marking guide for the marking decision. Create a review sheet listing each applicable rule, the wording it requires, the permitted location and the official source. The electrical equipment and toy examples below are product-specific, not a universal label template.

Confirm whose details belong on the label

For electrical equipment covered by the Great Britain safety regulations, importer details include a name, registered trade name or mark and postal address on the equipment, or elsewhere where placing them there is not possible. Ask the buyer to confirm the entity and address before layout approval. Do not substitute the factory, freight forwarder or sourcing contact by habit. Record the rule supporting any alternative location, rather than assuming the retail box is always enough.

Match identifiers across the print files

For covered electrical equipment, manufacturer details and a type, batch, serial number or other identification belong on the equipment; packaging or an accompanying document is the alternative where that is not possible. Compare the identifier against the sample, test evidence and manual. Distinguish fixed model text from variable batch information, and agree how variable fields will be applied. Put the approved wording and placement into your product specification.

Review warnings and English instructions

Covered electrical equipment must have clear, legible instructions in easily understandable English. Toy hazard information must be visible, legible, understandable and accurate in English, preceded by “Warning” or “Warnings”. Select warnings from the applicable product requirements and safety assessment, rather than copying a similar box. Have someone follow the draft manual with the actual sample, checking assembly, controls, accessories and safe use. Resolve mismatched illustrations or missing steps before approving print.

Release a complete, controlled print pack

Approve the product label, retail packaging and manual together. Request a physical proof to check readability, folds, seams and whether labels obscure warnings. Record the approved filenames, revision, model and approver, and tell the factory to stop if anything changes. Use our factory artwork approval guide for print production checks. Cambridge China Bridge’s staff in China can compare factory samples with the agreed print pack; resolve any unanswered rule question before release.

Frequently asked questions

Can importer details go only on the box?

Check the product rule. For covered electrical equipment, the normal location is the equipment; packaging or accompanying documentation is permitted where that is not possible. Record why your chosen location is allowed.

Does every product need a serial number?

Do not apply a universal template. Covered electrical equipment can use a type, batch, serial number or other identification. Check the rule for your product and agree how the identifier will match factory records.

Can I approve packaging before the manual?

Approve them together. A later manual review may uncover a different model, missing accessory or warning that changes the packaging. Keep printing on hold until the wording and illustrations agree.

What should I send the factory before printing?

Send the approved label, packaging and manual files, a placement sheet, variable identifier instructions and a written release naming the approved revision. Ask for a physical proof and confirmation that superseded files are removed.
