Are Chinese angle grinder discs safe for my tool?
Some discs may suit your tool, but a marketplace listing cannot establish compatibility. Reject chainsaw discs and toothed saw attachments for angle grinders. Check the exact tool manual, attachment purpose, speed rating, dimensions and required guard before ordering. Supplier evidence checks can be coordinated by Cambridge China Bridge.

Check alerts before comparing specifications
UK product safety alerts advise stopping use of chainsaw discs with angle grinders and stopping use of toothed saw blades within the alert's scope. Exclude these attachments from your order, even where a seller advertises them as woodcarving accessories or includes them with a grinder.
Search the official UK product safety notices for the tool and attachment separately, using their names, brands and models. Read the wider attachment alerts as well as individual product reports. Our UK safety alert screening guide explains identification and record keeping. No matching notice is not proof of safety.
Identify the attachment and intended job
Ask whether the item is an abrasive cutting disc, grinding disc, flap disc, diamond cutting disc, wire brush or backing pad with sanding discs. State the material and operation you intend to use it for. A photograph and the phrase 'universal fit' do not establish its permitted uses.
Find your exact grinder model's manual and accessory guidance. Choose only attachment types the tool manufacturer recommends for that model and job, and follow both sets of instructions. Do not assume a cutting disc permits side grinding, or that a sanding pad or brush intended for a drill suits an angle grinder.
Compare speed ratings in matching units
HSE guidance says the wheel manufacturer's maximum permissible operating speed must never be exceeded. Compare the grinder's maximum spindle speed with the attachment's maximum rotational speed in matching units. The attachment rating must cover the grinder's speed; a seller's demonstration at a slower setting does not establish compatibility.
Request readable photographs of the actual attachment's speed marking and packaging. Do not compare a surface-speed value directly with revolutions per minute. If units differ, markings conflict or a variable-speed tool needs a restricted setting, obtain manufacturer confirmation before ordering. Include the backing pad's rating where one is used.
Check dimensions, mounting and guards together
Compare outside diameter, thickness, centre bore or thread, disc shape and mounting arrangement with the exact tool manual. Ask for a dimensioned drawing and photographs of the supplied flanges, nut or backing pad. Matching the centre hole alone does not settle the diameter, clamping or guard checks.
Confirm the manufacturer-specified guard for the attachment and operation, including whether cutting needs a different guard. Reject combinations that require removing or modifying the guard, forcing the mounting or using an unapproved adaptor. Disconnect the power supply before physical fitting checks, and do not use a powered trial to resolve uncertain compatibility.

Turn the checks into an order specification
Record the tool model, approved attachment type, material, operation, dimensions, speed rating, mounting parts and guard arrangement in your purchase specification. Require matching instructions and traceable manufacturer and batch details. Assess any report against the exact attachment using our test report verification guide. A certificate alone does not prove that it suits your grinder.
Ask for checks on the actual goods before shipment, including markings, dimensions, supplied parts, damage and any stated expiry date. Our inspection guide helps prepare the brief. Visual checks cannot establish burst strength or settle an unresolved safety assessment. Cambridge China Bridge's staff in China can coordinate supplier evidence and inspection against your agreed specification.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a chainsaw disc on my angle grinder?
No. The UK chainsaw-disc safety alert advises stopping use of any chainsaw disc with an angle grinder. Exclude it even if the seller calls it compatible.
Does the right centre hole mean a disc fits?
No. Check attachment type, outside diameter, thickness, speed rating, mounting parts and the required guard against your exact tool manual.
Can I turn the speed down for a lower-rated disc?
Do not assume this makes it suitable. Obtain manufacturer confirmation for the exact tool, attachment and speed restriction before ordering.
What should I ask a Chinese disc seller for?
Ask for actual marking photographs, dimensions, speed rating, intended materials and operations, mounting details, instructions and manufacturer identity. Resolve gaps before paying.
