Buying temporary power distribution for events
Before ordering, agree a written electrical brief with the venue and a competent electrician: the supply, connected loads, connectors, earthing, protection, weather limits and site acceptance checks. Name who installs, tests, isolates and authorises use. Coordinate the approved factory specification with Cambridge China Bridge.

Agree the venue connection and responsible people
Ask the venue to identify the permitted connection point and provide its supply details and available inspection records to your electrician. Arrange a site visit where those details are uncertain. Ask the electrician about experience with temporary event distribution and the proposed supply. Use our club equipment guide for purchase authority, venue permission and insurance.
Record who designs the arrangement, approves factory drawings, connects equipment, commissions it and controls isolation during the event. Agree access restrictions, emergency contacts and who can authorise restarting after a fault. Make this a purchasing condition: hold the order while any electrical responsibility or supply detail remains unresolved.
Turn the actual supply into a factory specification
Have the electrician confirm voltage, frequency, phase arrangement, available current, earthing arrangement and upstream protection. HSE advises consulting a competent person if supply safety remains uncertain. Provide a load schedule covering sound, lighting, catering and other users, including starting loads and equipment operating together. Ask the electrician to assess cable lengths, voltage drop and load allocation.
Specify inlet and outlet connector types, contact arrangements, ratings, cable construction, lengths, strain relief and circuit labels. Include drawings showing neutral and protective conductor connections. Ask the electrician to approve any adaptor arrangement rather than accepting a factory promise of UK compatibility. Put the approved details into a written product specification.
Agree protection before choosing the distribution box
Ask the electrician to select overload, short-circuit and residual current protection for the complete arrangement. Record device types, ratings, settings, breaking capacity and coordination with the venue's protection. Ask how earthing and bonding will work, including any generator supply. Agree which installation standards the electrician will use and what evidence they expect from the manufacturer.
Agree how faults will be isolated without losing essential lighting or other safety services. Ask the electrician to define residual current device testing and explain user checks. HSE advises regularly operating the test button and confirming that the device trips. Record who performs those checks and who investigates a trip before reconnection.
Define weather exposure and cable routes
Give the electrician the layout and expected exposure to rain, splash, dust, condensation and ground water. Agree enclosure and connector ingress protection, including the condition with plugs connected or covers open. Ask what shelters, raised supports and ventilation are needed. Use our waterproof claims guide to brief the supporting evidence.
HSE advises selecting and rating cables for adverse weather and environmental conditions. Mark routes, connection positions, public access and vehicle crossings on the plan. Agree mechanical protection and how connections will be kept clear of water. Set weather conditions that trigger inspection, isolation or cancellation, and name the person monitoring them.

Separate factory acceptance from site commissioning
Before production, agree the drawings, component schedule, wiring diagrams, instructions and model-specific test evidence the electrician will review. Use our certification guide for marking and document checks. Require written approval for component substitutions. Cambridge China Bridge's staff in China can compare factory documents and production details against the approved specification.
Make site commissioning an agreed condition before event use. Ask the electrician to define and perform the appropriate inspection and tests, covering protective conductor continuity, insulation, polarity, earthing, fault protection and protective device operation. Agree a controlled load trial, recorded results, defect closure and written handover to the venue and club. Define rechecking after relocation, alteration, damage or water exposure.
Frequently asked questions
Can we order a distribution box before the venue confirms its supply?
Hold the order until the venue and electrician confirm the connection, capacity, earthing and protection. Connector appearance or a supplier's UK compatibility claim is insufficient for approving your specification.
Will the venue's existing protection cover our event equipment?
Ask the electrician to assess the complete arrangement and coordinate upstream and downstream protection. Record the selected devices, settings and responsibility for testing before ordering.
Is a waterproof distribution box enough for an outdoor event?
Ask the electrician to assess the assembled system, including connected plugs, cable entries, shelters and water exposure. Agree cable routes and weather conditions that trigger inspection or isolation.
Do factory test reports replace commissioning at the venue?
Make factory evidence and site commissioning separate acceptance conditions. Agree installation checks, a controlled load trial, defect closure and written handover before authorising event use.
