Use the ecosystem to find a production route

Quanzhou’s official account describes Nan'an’s plumbing and sanitaryware cluster as spanning casting, electroplating, hardware manufacturing and trade. China Water Heating City connects product display and distribution with the surrounding production network. Use market meetings to identify suitable suppliers, then establish where your chosen product is actually made.

Separate taps, valves and fittings from ceramic sanitaryware and bathroom accessories in your shortlist. Ask each supplier which operations it performs, which components it buys and which processes it sends elsewhere. A coordinated supply chain can suit your order, provided you can identify and assess the sites behind it.

Send a technical brief before arranging meetings

For taps and fittings, specify the intended installation, water pressure and temperature range, connection drawings, body material, cartridge, seals, hoses and finish. For ceramic products, include installation dimensions, outlet arrangement, glaze appearance and the proposed flushing components. Define packaging, spare parts and acceptance checks alongside the product.

Name the destination market and ask your installer or technical adviser to identify the applicable requirements. For England and Wales, Defra advises directing water-fitting compliance questions to the local water company or Water Regs UK. Use our construction materials guide for the separate construction-product documentation questions, and test-report checks to assess evidence for the offered configuration.

Make trade-market meetings technical

Book appointments against the brief rather than browsing by appearance alone. Ask suppliers to bring relevant samples, component details, drawings and supporting test reports. Confirm the current meeting address, contact and access arrangements before travelling; a market showroom address does not identify the production site.

Record who owns each sample, who will quote and who will manufacture it. Ask the technical contact to explain deviations from your brief and identify the proposed casting, finishing and assembly sites. Leave each meeting with a written gap list and agreed follow-up evidence, rather than a catalogue and an indicative price.

Follow the product through the sites

Arrange visits in production order, with permission to see the relevant work underway. Use the factory-visit preparation guide for general arrangements. At casting and machining sites, trace material records to bodies, examine rejected castings and ask how porosity, threads and sealing faces are checked. For ceramics, follow forming, firing, glazing and dimensional checks instead.

At finishing sites, compare preparation, polishing and coating controls with the agreed appearance sample. Ask how finish defects are detected and how coating tests relate to your product. At assembly, check component identification, seal fitting, functional and leak tests, rejected-unit handling and packing. Record outsourced operations using our subcontracted-production guide.

Turn the visit into an approval decision

Create a supplier comparison based on fit to the brief, evidence gaps, process ownership, sample results and spare-part support. Request samples made through the proposed production route, with the intended components and finish. Keep photographs, sample identifiers and test records together so that a showroom sample cannot quietly become the production reference.

Before ordering, agree the approved drawings, component list, finish reference, inspection checks and how proposed changes will be submitted for approval. Keep unresolved technical points visible in the order decision. Cambridge China Bridge’s own staff in China can coordinate supplier meetings, process-site visits and follow-up evidence for the buyer.
