Start with the import-export card

Senegal’s Commerce Ministry states that individuals or companies engaged in importing and exporting goods, holding a trader card, can apply for an import-export card. Before asking factories to start production, give your Senegal customs broker the proposed importer’s details and ask them to confirm the card arrangements for your purchase.

Settle whose name will appear as buyer, consignee and importer, and send us the agreed details. Our overseas buying guide explains the wider purchasing process; this Senegal guide adds the importer-card check and the document handover to your broker.

Ask your broker before committing to production

Send your broker the product description, materials, intended use, photographs and draft invoice. Ask for a written checklist covering classification, permits, certificates, label wording and any work to complete before shipment. Agree who obtains each document and when the broker needs to review it.

Use the Ghana guide and Morocco guide when comparing destination procedures. For Senegal, obtain the checklist for your actual goods. We could not open the detailed official procedure pages, so this guide gives no declaration threshold or blanket pre-shipment certification rule.

Prepare the documents with the Chinese factory

We coordinate the commercial invoice and packing list with the factory and the agreed selling arrangement. Ask your broker to approve the invoice issuer, buyer details, product descriptions, currency and freight breakdown before documents are finalised. Match the packing list to the actual cartons, quantities, weights and shipping marks.

We arrange a certificate of origin where your broker’s checklist calls for it and obtain relevant test reports from the factory or an agreed laboratory. Check that reports identify the actual model, materials and applicable specification. Send drafts to your broker before dispatch, including the transport document when available.

Check the supplier and inspect in China

Our own staff in China check the supplier’s identity, production location, equipment and ability to make your product. We compare the proposed specification with samples and record agreed materials, dimensions, performance, packaging and label artwork before production.

Before shipment, we inspect against the agreed sample and specification, check packing and markings, and report defects with photographs. Agree corrective work and any reinspection before release. Keep this purchasing inspection separate in your checklist from any official assessment your broker identifies.

Quote to your port and plan arrival clearance

Tell us your destination port in Senegal and request a quote with the delivery term and included charges stated. Agree responsibility for freight, insurance, destination handling and onward transport. The buy through a UK company service explains the purchasing arrangement.

Your own Senegal customs broker confirms the final entry, applicable duties and taxes, permits and clearance documents. Ask them to handle the arrival declaration, customs queries, payment arrangements and release coordination. Give them the agreed document pack before arrival and obtain their estimate of local charges separately from our port quote.
