Importing from China to Qatar: customs code

For commercial imports, Qatar Customs requires evidence of the importer's activity to obtain the customs code. Confirm your importer setup with your own Qatar customs broker before ordering, then agree documents, product checks and a price to your destination port. Cambridge China Bridge coordinates the China end.

Start with the importer's customs code

Qatar Customs lists evidence of the importer's activity to obtain the customs code as its first commercial-import control. Before paying a factory, ask your own Qatar customs broker to confirm which business will import the goods and whether its customs setup is ready.

Give the broker the product description, intended use, materials and model details. Ask for a written checklist covering any product approvals, conformity evidence and labelling relevant to your order. If you also buy for Saudi Arabia, keep its checklist separate; our Saudi Arabia guide covers that destination.

Agree a price to your own port

We can quote for sourcing from Chinese factories and shipment to your nominated Qatar port. Name the port and agree the delivery term, freight scope and insurance arrangements in writing. Ask your broker to estimate destination charges so you can compare the port quote with your expected total cost.

Your own customs broker confirms the final entry, local duties, permits and clearance. Agree who pays for port handling, storage and onward delivery. Our guide for buyers outside the UK explains the wider arrangement, while buying through a UK company explains our role.

Build the document pack before shipment

Agree the document pack with your broker before production. The factory supplies product descriptions, quantities, packing details and available test reports. We coordinate the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin with the factory and exporter, and send drafts to you and your broker for checking.

Check that the descriptions, model references, quantities, weights and consignee details agree across the documents. Ask the broker to confirm the accepted document format and any authentication or original-document arrangements. For test reports, match the tested model, materials and configuration to the goods ordered, then ask the broker whether further evidence is needed.

Check the supplier and the finished order

Our own staff in China check the supplier's identity, production site and ability to make the specified goods. Agree a sample and written specification, then check the finished order against them before shipment. Include workmanship, dimensions, function, packing and the label artwork agreed with your broker.

Keep inspection findings separate from laboratory evidence and your decision to release the shipment. Ask for photos, recorded defects and confirmation that agreed corrections were checked. Our audit and inspection report guide explains what each report can establish.

Give your broker a complete arrival handover

Before dispatch, send your broker the agreed documents, shipping details and any product evidence they requested. Have them check the invoice issuer, exporter, origin and Qatar consignee against the transaction. Buying through a UK company makes this review useful because the commercial seller and Chinese exporter may be different businesses.

Appoint your broker to handle the arrival declaration, document submission, queries, payment arrangements and release coordination. Confirm who obtains the transport document and delivery order from the carrier or forwarder. Keep someone available to answer questions while the goods are awaiting clearance.
