Importing from China to Malaysia: product approval
Start with the product approval check. For electrical equipment covered by its approval route, Malaysia's Energy Commission says import can proceed once the Certificate of Approval is issued. Your own broker confirms the final entry and local costs. For sourcing and a quote to your Malaysian port, contact Cambridge China Bridge.

Check the product approval route before ordering
The first gate is whether your particular product needs an import permit or product approval. MITI says the imposition of an Approved Permit depends on the product's tariff code. Send your Malaysian broker the specification, intended use, materials and model details before committing to a factory, and ask them to confirm the applicable approval route.
For electrical equipment covered by the Energy Commission's Certificate of Approval route, its guidance says the importer may proceed with import activities once the certificate has been issued. Make approval a shipment release condition in your order plan. The UAE guide explains a different destination's licence gate; use it to understand the questions, while your broker confirms Malaysia's requirements. For a product-approval comparison, see importing from China to Norway.
Agree a quote to your own Malaysian port
Tell us your destination port, product specification, order quantity and who will handle Malaysian clearance. We can quote to your own port. Ask the quote to identify the delivery term, freight, insurance arrangements, destination charges and the point where responsibility transfers. Agree separately who arranges onward delivery.
When buying through a UK company, agree who sells and invoices the goods, who exports from China and who imports in Malaysia. Send that arrangement to your broker before accepting the quote so they can review the proposed document chain. A price to port needs a separate local cost estimate from your broker.
Prepare the documents and arrival handover
We coordinate the commercial invoice and packing list with the factory and the agreed seller. Ask your broker to review drafts showing product descriptions, quantities, values, carton counts and weights. The factory supplies available test reports; we check that the model and configuration match your order. Where your broker requests a certificate of origin, we coordinate it with the China-side exporter and confirm the requested form before shipment.
Appoint your own Malaysian customs broker to prepare the arrival declaration, confirm classification and valuation, calculate duties and taxes, and coordinate clearance. The buyer's own broker confirms the final entry. For approved electrical appliances, SIRIM states that they must carry SIRIM-ST labels or the SIRIM Certification Mark. Ask your broker and the relevant approval body to confirm any local testing and label arrangements before planning distribution.
Check the supplier and the finished order
Our own staff in China check the supplier's identity, production site and ability to make the specified product. For Malaysia, add a specific question to the supplier brief: can they provide traceable test evidence for the exact model you intend to import? The factory verification guide covers the identity checks without repeating them here.
Before shipment, we inspect against the agreed specification, approved sample, packaging and artwork, and record defects and corrective actions for your release decision. Keep inspection findings separate from product approval evidence. The audit and inspection report guide explains what each check proves. Ask us to match the factory, model and report references across the shipment file.
Send a brief that lets both sides act
Send the product specification, photographs or drawings, intended use, quantity, destination port and your broker's document and approval checklist. Ask us to identify missing factory evidence before you pay a deposit, and agree who authorises production changes and shipment release.
For the wider service options, read buying from China outside the UK. Factory audits and inspections are usually included in the quote; complex checks that need a third party are charged separately and agreed in advance.
