Importing from China to Singapore: Customs Account

For a commercial order, start with the Singapore importer's Customs Account: it must be activated before an import permit application. Check separately whether the product needs registration and a SAFETY Mark before sale. Your own broker confirms the final entry; China-side sourcing and shipment checks are handled by Cambridge China Bridge.

Start with the importer's Customs Account

Singapore Customs puts account activation before the import permit application. Identify the Singapore importing business and check its Unique Entity Number and account status before committing to the factory. For a new Singapore company, Customs says registration with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority is required to obtain that number. For a commercial shipment, the relevant permit must be obtained before importation.

Agree whose name will appear as buyer, seller and consignee before preparing documents. Buying through our UK company and shipping from China are commercial arrangements to explain to your broker. The overseas buying guide covers the wider sourcing process; this guide adds Singapore's account and product checks.

Check product registration before approving production

The Consumer Product Safety Office says products covered by the Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Regulations must be registered and carry the SAFETY Mark before sale. Its guidance also requires Controlled Goods to be tested against specified safety standards before sale in Singapore. Ask whether your exact product and intended use fall within that scope before approving production or label artwork.

Ask the factory for reports identifying the actual model, components and tested configuration. Have your Singapore compliance adviser confirm the testing, registration and marking route, then give us the agreed requirements for production and inspection. The UAE guide explains that destination's separate route; use Singapore's requirements for this order.

Your broker handles Singapore clearance

Singapore Customs allows you to appoint a local freight forwarding or declaring agent registered as a TradeNet user to obtain the permit. Engage your own customs broker before dispatch, rather than waiting for arrival. Ask them to confirm the importer details, classification, product approvals, declaration value and documents for the final entry.

Agree that your broker will coordinate arrival clearance, applicable tax and duty payments, cargo release and onward delivery. Ask for a written breakdown of destination charges. Our quote to your named Singapore port should identify the freight term, insurance arrangements and included charges, so you can distinguish the port price from your total delivered cost.

Agree the document pack before shipment

The factory supplies product descriptions, packing details and model-specific test reports. We coordinate the commercial invoice and packing list for the agreed transaction, checking the parties, descriptions, quantities and carton details against the order. Where your broker requests a certificate of origin, we arrange it with the factory or exporter and confirm the required form before dispatch.

Send draft documents to your broker for review before shipment. Explain the UK seller and Chinese dispatch point, and ask which invoice they need for the declaration. Agree who provides the transport document and any missing evidence. A factory report should be checked against the supplied product; do not treat a report for a similar model as approval for your order.

Verify the supplier and inspect the order in China

Our own staff in China check supplier identity, the production site and capability against your specification. Agree the sample, materials, packaging and inspection criteria before production. Before shipment, we check the finished goods against that brief, record defects and packaging findings, and ask for correction where needed. The audit and inspection comparison explains what each report proves.

For buying through a UK company, tell us the product, intended use, named Singapore port and your broker's requirements. We agree the China-side work and document responsibilities in the quote. On charges, factory audits and inspections are usually included in the quote; complex checks that need a third party are charged separately and agreed in advance.
