How to stop recurring shopping membership charges
Save the checkout evidence, cancel the membership with its operator, and separately tell your UK card provider to stop the recurring payment authority. Challenge charges you never authorised or those collected after effective withdrawal of consent. Cambridge China Bridge can help clarify the purchasing records.

Identify the membership and preserve the evidence
Match the card statement’s merchant description to your order confirmation, membership emails and shopping account. Ask your card provider to identify the collecting merchant and confirm whether the charge is a recurring card payment. The membership operator may differ from the seller of your goods.
Save the original checkout screen if available, receipt, membership terms, trial offer, renewal messages and statement entries. Record the dates and amounts actually charged. Keep the goods order and membership charges separate in your notes.
Check what you agreed to at checkout
Look for the membership price, charging frequency, trial expiry, automatic renewal wording and the action used to accept them. Ask the operator for the checkout wording and acceptance record from your purchase, rather than relying on its current website. For the wider checkout checks, read payment buttons and optional extras.
UK consumer checkout guidance says additional payments require express consent through an active choice. Use this to frame questions about an optional membership, without assuming consumer checkout protections cover your business purchase or every overseas seller. For a company card, ask the provider which cancellation and refund terms apply to your account.
Cancel the membership with its operator
Use the membership cancellation route and send a written request naming the account and membership. Ask for confirmation of the cancellation date, renewal status and any claimed outstanding balance. If you dispute joining, say so explicitly and ask for the evidence of agreement.
Save the cancellation confirmation and screenshots of any failed cancellation attempt. Ask separately whether the goods order remains active. Treat membership cancellation and stopping the card authority as separate tasks, and obtain confirmation of each.
Withdraw the recurring card authority separately
Contact your UK card provider through its usual secure channel. Say: “I withdraw consent to this merchant’s recurring card payments. Please cancel the continuing authority and confirm when this takes effect.” Give the merchant description, membership details and next expected collection date. Ask which pending payments can still be stopped.
Under applicable UK payment rules, withdrawal of consent to a payment series makes future transactions unauthorised, subject to the payment-order revocation limits. Contact the provider promptly rather than relying on replacing your card, deleting the shopping app or removing a saved card. Keep the provider’s acknowledgement and case reference.

Challenge subsequent collections with your card provider
Report each disputed collection promptly. Explain whether you never authorised the recurring arrangement or withdrew consent before the collection. Supply the checkout records, cancellation messages and provider acknowledgement. Ask for an unauthorised-payment refund where applicable: UK payment rules require refunds for unauthorised transactions, subject to their conditions.
Ask for a written explanation if the provider refuses, and use its complaints process if unresolved. Keep a missing or delayed goods claim separate; see chargeback for a delayed China order. If a dispute credit is later removed, see what to do when chargeback credit is reversed. Track refunds against the disputed entries to avoid claiming the same collection again.
Frequently asked questions
How do I stop membership charges after buying from China?
Cancel the membership with its operator and separately withdraw the recurring card authority through your UK card provider. Save both confirmations and check later statements.
What if I never agreed to the shopping membership?
Ask for the original checkout wording and acceptance record. Tell your card provider you dispute authorising recurring payments, request cancellation and ask it to assess the collected charges.
Should I replace my card to stop the charges?
Ask your provider to cancel the merchant’s recurring payment authority explicitly. Obtain confirmation of its effective date rather than relying on card replacement.
What if another payment is taken after cancellation?
Send your provider the collection details and proof of effective withdrawal of consent. Request an unauthorised-payment refund where applicable, and a written reason if it refuses.
