Sourcing zipper neckties from China
Woven zipper neckties from China carry 6% UK duty across the silk, man-made fibre and other textile lines in heading 6215. Fibre content must be labelled accurately. Specify the adjustable neck loop and check that the zip holds its setting without snagging. Cambridge China Bridge sources zipper neckties.

6% duty on woven zipper neckties
Heading 6215 covers ties, bow ties and cravats. This guide focuses on woven zipper neckties with a fixed knot and an adjustable neck loop. The listed lines distinguish silk or silk waste, man-made fibres and other textile materials, with separate hand-made and other categories.
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 8 October 2026, all supplied lines carry 6% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff data lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duties, suspensions or attached import controls.
Confirm the outer fabric, woven construction and manufacturing method before choosing the commodity code. Knitted ties fall outside these woven tie lines. For the wider heading and another fastening style, see the clip-on ties guide.

Specify the fixed knot and adjustable neck loop
Approve a working sample showing how the zip adjusts the neck loop. Specify finished blade length and width, loop adjustment range, knot shape, zip type, slider access and fabric backing around the mechanism. Agree fibre composition, lining, interlining, colour references and logo position. Check the tie with the intended shirt collar before approving production.
Textile labels must show fibre content. Polyester with a silk appearance must be labelled as polyester. Consumer products sold in Great Britain must be safe in normal or reasonably foreseeable use. For school orders, assess the neck loop, snagging and detachable parts for the intended wearers; do not assume a zipper mechanism releases when pulled.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 3,000 woven polyester zipper neckties under 6215 20 00 90, invoiced at £6,000 free on board, with £400 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £6,400. Duty at 6% is £384. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £6,784, so it is £1,356.80. Import taxes total £1,740.80; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £384 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Zip operation: adjust sampled ties through the agreed range repeatedly. Check for trapped fabric, rough movement, loose stops and a slider that slips after adjustment.
Knot and loop: compare knot shape and loop dimensions with the approved sample. Check that the knot stays centred and that concealed hardware has no exposed sharp edges.
Fabric and finish: hang ties to check blade twist. Compare colour, logo position, stitching and interlining with the approved sample, and check for marks around the knot.
Labels and packing: compare fibre labels with the agreed composition and supporting test results. Check carton contents, size identification and protection against crushed knots. Use an agreed inspection checklist.

What goes wrong
A tie can look correct in its bag but fail when adjusted. The slider catches the lining, the neck loop creeps larger, or the fixed knot rotates because the internal assembly is uneven. Ask the factory to demonstrate the mechanism on production samples and compare it with the approved working sample.
Packing can flatten the knot or leave a crease across the blade. Mixed loop sizes and off-centre logos also cause sorting and rework. Record these faults separately from ordinary sewing defects so the factory can correct the mechanism, assembly or packing responsible.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on zipper neckties from China?
The supplied heading 6215 tariff lines all carry 6% duty for goods from China, with no listed anti-dumping or countervailing duties.
Does a zipper necktie have its own commodity code?
The supplied lines do not separate zipper neckties. Confirm the outer fabric, woven construction and hand-made status before selecting the line.
Can polyester zipper ties be labelled as silk?
No. Fibre composition must be labelled accurately. A silk appearance does not make polyester a silk product.
What should I check on school zipper ties?
Assess suitability for the intended wearers, including neck-loop snagging and detachable parts. Check adjustment and slider holding, and do not assume the zip provides a release function.
