Sourcing zinc rainwater downpipes from China
Zinc rainwater downpipes from China carry 0% UK duty under the other zinc articles line. Before sale in Great Britain, check the construction-product requirements; importers must withhold products they have reason to believe are non-compliant. Specify joint fit, seams and finish. Cambridge China Bridge sources zinc rainwater downpipes.

Duty on zinc downpipes
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 4 October 2026, heading 7907 covers other articles of zinc. Zinc rainwater downpipes and zinc connecting fittings fall within the other articles line, subject to confirmation of the finished product. The table shows different product forms sharing the same commodity code.
The supplied tariff record gives 0% duty for goods from China under 7907 00 00 90, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measure and no suspension recorded. It attaches import and export waste controls. For goods shipped from China to England as waste under notification controls, the exporter must seek consent through the dispatch-country authority; shipment can start after consent from the Environment Agency and other relevant authorities. Ask your customs broker to confirm whether the waste control applies to your consignment.
Confirm the material, function and finished condition through finding your commodity code. Galvanised steel is steel, even when described by a supplier as zinc-coated. For the wider rainwater product family, see zinc rainwater gutters.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round zinc rainwater downpipes | 7907 00 00 90 | 0% | None |
Pipe profile, sockets and building use
Specify zinc material and alloy composition, round or rectangular profile, wall thickness, finished length, seam construction and surface finish. Draw the socket dimensions, insertion depth, bend geometry, wall clearance and bracket interface. Identify which ends are expanded and agree how joints are assembled. Approve a sample assembly using the gutter outlet, bends, pipe and brackets intended for the project.
For supply in Great Britain, establish whether a designated construction-product standard or technical assessment covers the product. Products outside or partly outside a designated standard may be covered by a technical assessment document. CE marking remains available for construction products in Great Britain. Confirm the applicable assessment and marking route through testing and certification; a supplier's general certificate should not replace a check of the actual product.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: 2 tonnes of round zinc rainwater downpipes, illustrative order under 7907 00 00 90, invoiced at £9,000 free on board, with £900 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £9,900. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £9,900, so it is £1,980. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Material: compare the batch material report with the agreed zinc specification and check sampled wall thickness against the drawing.
Fit: measure pipe ends and sockets, assemble sampled bends and sleeves, and check bracket fit and outlet alignment without forcing the joints.
Seams: inspect for splits, open joints, sharp edges and distorted ends; run an agreed water-flow trial through a sample assembly and check for leakage.
Finish and packing: compare surface colour with the approved sample, inspect for dents and scuffing, and check separators, end protection and support along the pipes.

What goes wrong
Pipe ends can become oval during packing, sockets can be too tight, and bends can leave the pipe out of line with the wall brackets. A straight pipe sample alone will not reveal these problems. Approve the complete connection arrangement and inspect the production fittings alongside the pipes.
Long pipes can arrive dented or bowed when bundles lack support. Surface rubbing can also leave visible marks across adjoining lengths. Agree handling and packing with the factory, then record arrival damage before mixing batches. Importers must not supply construction products in Great Britain when they have reason to believe the applicable requirements are unmet.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For repeat volumes, see container programmes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on zinc downpipes from China?
The supplied tariff record gives 0% under 7907 00 00 90, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measure or suspension recorded. Confirm that the finished goods belong in this line.
Do zinc downpipes need CE marking?
Check the product's designated-standard or technical-assessment coverage before deciding the marking route. CE marking remains available for construction products in Great Britain.
Will Chinese zinc downpipes fit my existing gutters?
Do not rely on the nominal pipe size. Send outlet and socket drawings, specify insertion depth and bend geometry, and approve an assembly using the actual connecting parts.
What should I check when zinc downpipes arrive?
Check dents, bowed lengths, distorted sockets, seam damage and surface rubbing. Assemble sampled pipes, bends and sleeves against the approved drawings before releasing the batch.
