Vitamin K1 duty and classification

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, unmixed other vitamins and their derivatives under 2936 29 00 00, and other vitamins including natural concentrates under 2936 90 00 00, carried 0% duty for goods from China. Neither line lists anti-dumping or countervailing duty or a suspension. The table separates uses of the same unmixed line and vitamin intermixtures containing Vitamin K1.

The UK Trade Tariff attaches export controls for dangerous chemicals to the unmixed line and for waste to both lines. These are labelled as export controls in the supplied tariff record. Confirm applicability with your customs broker, including any return shipment. Waste shipment controls apply only where the material is waste; do not treat an export-control label as an import authorisation.

Heading 2936 covers vitamins and vitamin intermixtures, but additives can affect classification. Send the complete composition and intended use to your broker, especially for carrier-based powders or solutions, and confirm the commodity code. Finished supplement tablets and capsules are usually food preparations or medicines. See the wider vitamins guide.

Specify Vitamin K1 identity, potency and formulation

Write Vitamin K1 explicitly into the specification rather than accepting a description of vitamin K alone. Agree the chemical identity, intended food, pharmaceutical or laboratory use, assay method, potency and impurity specification. For a diluted or coated ingredient, obtain the full carrier and additive composition and state whether the assay describes the supplied ingredient or its vitamin content.

Confirm with the relevant food authority which vitamin forms may be used in supplements and what labelling finished supplements need. Check the proposed chemical form before ordering. For pharmaceutical use, request the grade evidence and manufacturing quality evidence described in the wider vitamins guide. Agree batch analysis, stability evidence, storage conditions and sealed, light-proof packing.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: 10 kg of unmixed Vitamin K1 raw material, illustrative only under 2936 29 00 00, invoiced at £2,500 free on board, with £980 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £3,480. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £3,480, so it is £696. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Identity and assay: sample the shipped batch for independent identity and potency testing against the agreed method. Match the sample, container labels and certificate of analysis.

Composition and contaminants: check the declared carriers and additives, residual solvents where used in manufacture, and heavy-metal results. Include microbiological testing for powder preparations.

Packing and stability: inspect seals, protective liners, leakage and evidence of heat exposure on arrival. Check that stability data supports the stated retest or expiry date.

Traceability: reconcile batch numbers and weights with the invoice and packing list. Arrange inspection and agree how disputed batches will be held and investigated.

What goes wrong

A supplier may quote for a diluted Vitamin K1 ingredient while the buyer expects unmixed material. Comparing assay figures without checking their basis can hide the difference. Undeclared carriers also leave the broker working from an incomplete composition. Agree the formulation in writing and test the actual shipment before using it in production.

A matching certificate does not resolve damaged packaging or an assay below specification. Hold affected stock while the batch is investigated. When selling a supplement, review its wording as well as its composition: food must not be claimed or implied to treat, prevent or cure a disease or medical condition.

Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For repeat volumes, see container programmes.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on Vitamin K1 from China?

The supplied tariff record shows 0% duty under 2936 29 00 00 and 2936 90 00 00, with no listed anti-dumping or countervailing duty. Confirm which line fits the actual composition.

Does a Vitamin K1 powder belong in heading 2936?

Check the full composition. Unmixed material and vitamin intermixtures differ from carrier-based preparations. Give your broker the additives, formulation and intended use before choosing the code.

Can I import finished Vitamin K1 capsules using the raw-material code?

Finished supplement capsules are usually food preparations or medicines. Confirm their classification separately; the raw-material duty line does not settle the capsule code.

What should I ask a Vitamin K1 factory for?

Ask for exact identity, intended grade, full composition, batch analysis, assay method, contaminant results, stability evidence and packing details. Agree independent testing of the shipped batch.
