Sourcing vending machine locks from China
Vending machine locks and the related lines below carry 0% UK duty from China. Conformity marking is required only where sector-specific regulations require it; a marking alone does not establish machine compatibility. Agree the mounting dimensions and key plan before production. Cambridge China Bridge sources vending machine locks.

UK duty on vending machine locks
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 10 October 2026, heading 8301 covers base-metal locks operated by keys, combinations or electricity, together with lock parts and separately presented keys. Other locks is the starting point for vending machine locks; the table also covers replacement parts, spare keys and supplementary padlocks.
The selected lines carry 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspensions or attached import controls for these lines. This guide focuses on mechanical replacement locks rather than complete vending machines.
Confirm the commodity code using the lock construction, intended application and whether the shipment contains complete locks, parts or separate keys. For wider cabinet applications, see cabinet cam locks.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Other locks, including vending machine locks | 8301 40 90 00 | 0% | None |
| Other lock parts | 8301 60 00 90 | 0% | None |
| Base-metal keys presented separately | 8301 70 00 00 | 0% | None |
| Padlocks for supplementary machine security | 8301 10 00 00 | 0% | None |
Specify the machine interface and key plan
Send a drawing and a working sample showing the mounting hole, panel thickness, barrel length, cam offset and rotation direction. For a retractable handle assembly, agree its extension, thread and engagement with the machine latch. Specify body and cam materials, finish, key removal position and the supplied fixing hardware.
Confirm keyed-alike, keyed-different or master-keyed arrangements in writing. Keep the approved key plan with the sample and check production against it. Identify the machine models covered by the order rather than accepting a supplier's description of universal fit.
For Great Britain, conformity marking is necessary only where sector-specific regulations require it. Establish which rules apply to the actual design before requesting CE or UKCA markings, particularly if the order changes from a mechanical lock to an electrically operated assembly.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative replacement batch of mechanical vending machine locks under 8301 40 90 00, invoiced at £2,500 free on board, with £810 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £3,310. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £3,310, so it is £662. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Fit: install sampled locks in the actual machine panel or an agreed fixture; check mounting flats, barrel projection, cam clearance and latch engagement.
Operation: lock and unlock with the supplied keys under latch load; check handle release, return, key withdrawal and secure retention when locked.
Keying: compare key identification with the approved plan; test intended shared access and check for unintended opening between keyed-different locks.
Materials and finish: compare bodies, cams and fixings with the approved sample; inspect for burrs, loose retaining components and damaged plating. Record results using the inspection guide.

What goes wrong
A lock can fit the mounting hole but leave the cam short of the latch, foul the panel or rotate in the wrong direction. A retractable handle may release on the bench but bind when the machine door loads the mechanism. Test the fitted assembly before approving production.
Thin cams, substituted body materials and mixed key groups can defeat an otherwise correct order. Retain labelled samples and the key plan, then repeat fit and access checks on arrival before distributing replacement locks to maintenance teams.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on vending machine locks from China?
The selected lock, part, key and padlock lines carry 0% duty from China in the tariff record read on 10 October 2026, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty listed.
Which commodity code covers vending machine locks?
8301 40 90 00, other locks, is the starting point. Confirm it against the actual construction and application; lock parts and separately presented keys have their own lines.
Can I order locks that use the same key?
Agree a keyed-alike plan in writing, identify which machines share access and test the supplied keys against production locks. A master-key arrangement needs its own approved access plan.
How do I check a replacement lock fits?
Compare mounting dimensions, barrel length, cam offset and rotation with the existing assembly. Test a sample in the machine with the door closed and the latch under load.
