Sourcing Textile Roman Blinds from China

Textile Roman blinds from China carry UK duty of 6% to 12%, depending on fabric construction and fibre. Fibre content must be labelled, and new blinds with looped cords must have child safety devices fitted during manufacture or supplied with them. Cambridge China Bridge sources textile Roman blinds.

Duty by fabric and construction

Heading 6303 covers textile curtains, interior blinds and curtain or bed valances. Textile Roman blinds fall within its interior-blind descriptions. The relevant line depends on fibre composition and whether the fabric is knitted, woven or nonwoven.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, the listed lines for goods from China carry 12% duty, except nonwovens of synthetic fibres or other textile materials at 6%. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspensions or attached import controls.

Give your customs broker the finished blind specification, including face fabric, lining and construction, to confirm the commodity code. For wider heading coverage, see textile roller blinds.

Specify the folds, lining and lifting system

State finished width and drop, recess or face mounting, fold style, rod-pocket positions, lining, bottom bar and headrail. Specify the operating side and whether brackets and fixings are included. Approve a mounted sample, checking the raised fabric stack and that adjacent blinds have matching fold positions.

The label must show fibre content. Agree the label wording against the actual fabric specification. New blinds with looped cords must have child safety devices installed during manufacture or be sold with those devices. Agree the safety devices, warnings and fitting instructions before approving the lifting system.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative mixed-size batch of woven polyester Roman blinds for a small retailer under 6303 92 90 90, invoiced at £9,000 free on board, with £800 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £9,800. Duty at 12% is £1,176. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £10,976, so it is £2,195.20. Import taxes total £3,371.20; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £1,176 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Dimensions: measure finished width and drop against the window schedule, check square corners and confirm bracket fit during quality inspection.

Folds and operation: raise and lower the mounted blind, checking level folds, aligned rod pockets, secure cord attachments and a bottom bar that stays level.

Fabric and lining: compare shade and pattern placement with the approved sample, inspect seams and lining tension, and check blackout claims under light.

Labels and safety: check fibre labels, supplied child safety devices, warnings and fitting instructions against the approved pack; look for omitted parts or substituted mechanisms.

What goes wrong

Uneven rod pockets or lifting cords make folds rise at different heights. A twisted headrail or poorly secured bottom bar leaves the blind hanging crooked. Pattern placement can differ between neighbouring windows even when each blind meets its finished dimensions.

Different shrinkage in the face fabric and lining can pucker seams or distort the drop. Transit pressure can bend rods and crush folds. Check the fabric and lining together using the agreed care method, and approve packing that supports the headrail and keeps hardware away from the fabric.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on Roman blinds from China?

The supplied tariff lines carry 12% duty, with 6% for nonwoven synthetic or other textile materials. No anti-dumping or countervailing duty is listed. Confirm the line for the finished blind.

Do textile Roman blinds need fibre labels?

Yes. The label must show fibre content. Check the wording against the fabric actually used, rather than accepting a generic label from the factory.

Can I import Roman blinds with looped cords?

New blinds with looped cords must have child safety devices installed during manufacture or be sold with them. Check the devices, warnings and fitting instructions before approving production.

How do I stop Roman blinds folding unevenly?

Approve a mounted sample and specify rod-pocket positions and cord attachment points. Check operation, fold alignment and bottom-bar level on the finished blinds.
