UK duty on table football tables

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 29 September 2026, the relevant lines under heading 9504 carried 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied data records no anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no suspensions. Ordinary non-payment games tables sit within the other-games line; payment-operated tables and their parts have separate lines. Repeated codes in the table distinguish product formats, rather than separate tariff lines.

The other-games line attaches ivory import control and CITES import control. If materials include a CITES-listed species, check the permit requirement. For ivory, check exemption eligibility; the tariff requires registration or an exemption certificate reference for commercial imports. Confirm applicability with your customs broker before ordering unusual materials. The supplied lines also list cultural-goods export licensing; the other-games line additionally lists ivory and CITES export controls.

Confirm the commodity code using the table's payment mechanism, construction and whether the shipment contains complete tables or separate parts. Send photographs and a materials list to your broker. Specify the cabinet, rods and playing surface

State the intended users and setting, freestanding or tabletop format, cabinet material and thickness, leg construction, levelling feet and assembly method. Specify playing-surface flatness, side-wall joints, goal openings and ball-return access. Agree rod material, diameter, straightness, bearings, handles, end protection and whether rods telescope or project beyond the cabinet.

For consumer tables supplied in Great Britain, general product safety rules require safe products. For games designed or intended for children under 14, confirm with the relevant authority whether toy rules apply. Settle the intended age group before agreeing testing and warnings with the factory; use testing and certification support to define the evidence needed for the actual model.

Approve an assembled sample with the agreed balls, players and scoring system. For payment-operated tables, specify accepted payment methods, ball release, collection access and locks. Agree replacement rods, bearings, players and fasteners, with drawings showing which versions fit.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: 24 freestanding table football tables; illustrative order and values under 9504 90 80 00, invoiced at £12,900 free on board, with £6,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £19,400. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £19,400, so it is £3,880. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Cabinet and legs: check assembled stability, joint alignment, fastener engagement and levelling adjustment. Inspect corners, exposed edges and the underside.

Rods and players: check straightness, smooth rotation and sliding, handle security, player attachment and rod-end protection throughout the travel.

Play and payment: check ball roll across the surface, goal clearance, ball return and scoring. On payment-operated models, check release and collection using the agreed payment method.

Arrival and packing: open cartons, inspect for damp board, crushed corners and bent rods, count fittings and assemble a sample. Compare the instructions and supplied parts with the approved sample.

What goes wrong

A warped playing surface makes the ball drift; misaligned bearings make rods bind. Loose player fixings, weak leg joints and damaged cabinet corners can turn an apparently complete delivery into rework. Check these features on assembled production tables before packing, using the quality inspection guide.

Flat-packed tables can arrive with mixed fasteners or unclear assembly drawings. Payment-operated models can release the wrong quantity of balls or trap them inside the return. Agree assembly checks, ball-release checks and spare-part compatibility against the approved sample before shipment.
