Duty on steel hydronic skirting radiators

Heading 7322 covers non-electrically heated iron or steel central heating radiators and their parts, alongside certain air heaters. This guide covers steel water-heated skirting radiators. The table shows configurations sharing the steel-radiator line, rather than separate tariff classifications. For other radiator types, see radiators and towel rails.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, line 7322 19 00 00 carries 2% duty for goods from China. The supplied record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspension, steel measure or attached import control for this line.

Give your customs broker the construction drawing, water-carrying material and heating method before confirming the commodity code. A steel outer cover alone does not establish the construction of the radiator inside. Ask for separate classification advice on loose covers, fittings and mixed-material assemblies.

Specify the heated length and water circuit

Specify the steel grade, wall thickness, heated length, overall height, projection from the wall and finish. Draw the proposed runs, corners, door breaks, feed and return connections, vents and drain points. Agree which sections carry water and which are decorative covers. Include brackets, joint fittings, end caps and replacement seals in the packing list.

Ask for the EN 442 heat output report and declaration of performance for the supplied model. Record the temperature difference and tested configuration behind the output figure. Compare active heated length with active heated length, keeping unheated corners and covers separate. Agree the intended operating pressure, factory pressure test and connection threads.

CE marking continues to be accepted for construction products placed on the market in Great Britain. Check that the model identity on the marking, performance declaration and test report matches the order. Use testing and certification to review the evidence before approving production.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order of 2 project packs of straight steel hydronic skirting radiators under 7322 19 00 00, invoiced at £6,000 free on board, with £1,120 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £7,120. Duty at 2% is £142.40. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £7,262.40, so it is £1,452.48. Import taxes total £1,594.88; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £142.40 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Water circuit: witness the agreed pressure test and inspect welds, end closures and connecting joints for weeping. Check inside accessible connections for oil, scale and debris.

Fit and access: assemble a sample run with a corner and end termination. Measure connection positions, bracket spacing and wall projection against the drawing; check access to vents and joint fittings.

Output and identity: match the radiator profile, heated length and model identification to the approved specification, heat output report and performance declaration. Flag substitutions for review.

Finish and arrival: check straightness, coating coverage, damaged ends and crushed covers. Confirm joint fittings, seals and brackets against the packing list. Agree protective packing and the inspection scope before shipment.

What goes wrong

A catalogue can quote heat output for a different temperature difference or count decorative lengths as heated lengths. A changed water channel or radiator profile can also make the supplied assembly differ from the tested model. Keep the approved drawing and supporting report together, and ask the factory to flag design changes before production.

Long sections can arrive bent, joints can weep and corners can leave gaps when assembled. Hidden connections may become inaccessible after fixing, while missing seals or brackets can stop installation. Approve an assembled sample, photograph the joint arrangement and check the delivered packing list before releasing stock.

The supplied tariff record gives 2% for steel hydronic radiators under 7322 19 00 00, with no listed trade remedy, suspension or attached import control.

How do I compare skirting radiator heat output?

Ask for the EN 442 report for the supplied model. Compare figures at the same temperature difference and distinguish active heated length from decorative covers and unheated sections.

Is CE marking accepted for these radiators in Great Britain?

Yes, CE marking continues to be accepted for construction products in Great Britain. Check the supplied model against its performance declaration and supporting test report.

What should I check before ordering a full batch?
