Sourcing RF spectrum analysers from China

RF spectrum analysers within heading 9030 carry 0% UK duty from China across the relevant lines. Duty-free entry does not settle product safety: confirm with the relevant authority whether mains-powered instruments fall within the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. Check model-specific evidence and calibration. Cambridge China Bridge sources RF spectrum analysers.

Zero duty on the relevant tariff lines

Heading 9030 covers spectrum analysers alongside other electrical measuring instruments. The rows identify possible classifications for telecommunications instruments, other instruments with or without recording devices, and parts. They are classification candidates, rather than interchangeable codes for any analyser.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 17 October 2026, all these lines carried 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff data records no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspension or attached import control on these lines. Import VAT is separate.

Confirm the commodity code using the instrument’s intended application and recording capability. Give your broker the manual and technical description. For the wider heading, see oscilloscopes and multimeters.

Frequency coverage and usable measurement performance

Specify the frequency range, resolution bandwidth choices, sweep behaviour, amplitude accuracy and displayed noise level under agreed settings. State whether you need a tracking generator, preamplifier, external reference input or saved traces. Identify included functions and permanently enabled software options in the order.

Agree connector types, input impedance, maximum permitted input and protection against direct current at the input. Request a calibration certificate matched to each serial number. Confirm English menus, manuals and trace-export software before approving the sample.

For mains-powered instruments, review electrical safety evidence for the exact model and supplied power equipment. Request electromagnetic compatibility reports matching the hardware revision. Under the electromagnetic compatibility rules, the manufacturer must supply relevant English instructions. Confirm any applicable WEEE obligations with the relevant authority. For hazardous-substance compliance, individual products must show the importer’s name or trademark and a contactable address on the product or packaging.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative batch of bench RF spectrum analysers with recording capability under 9030 84 00 00, invoiced at £26,000 free on board, with £1,200 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £27,200. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £27,200, so it is £5,440. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Frequency and amplitude: compare readings with a calibrated signal source across the agreed frequency coverage, using the purchase specification’s test settings and tolerances.

Noise and resolution: check the noise floor, separation of nearby signals and sweep behaviour with the agreed attenuation and preamplifier settings.

Inputs and functions: inspect connectors and input warnings; exercise the tracking generator, external reference, saved traces and purchased software options where supplied.

Documents and packing: match calibration certificates and test reports to the supplied model and serial numbers; check English instructions, power equipment and connector protection during inspection.

What goes wrong

A headline frequency range can hide poor sensitivity or amplitude accuracy at its extremes. An apparently low noise floor may depend on settings that differ from the quotation. Compare suppliers using the same test conditions and record those conditions in the acceptance specification.

Functions demonstrated on a sample may arrive as temporary software options. Input damage, loose connectors and calibration certificates for a different serial number can make an otherwise working instrument unsuitable. Check the delivered configuration and certificate together before accepting the batch.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on RF spectrum analysers from China?

The relevant heading 9030 lines carry 0% duty in the supplied tariff data, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty. Confirm the exact code for the model. Import VAT is separate.

Which commodity code covers a spectrum analyser?

Check whether it is specially designed for telecommunications and whether it has a recording device. The table gives possible lines, including a separate parts line; confirm classification from the manual.

What calibration should I ask the factory for?

Request a certificate matched to each serial number, with results covering your working frequency and amplitude ranges. For professional use, ask for traceability to national standards.

What should I test before accepting the shipment?

Check frequency and amplitude readings, noise floor, resolution, connectors, enabled options and trace export against the agreed specification. Match each instrument to its calibration certificate.
