Zero duty on the relevant antibody lines

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 2 November 2026, the relevant immunological product lines under heading 3002 carry 0% duty for goods from China. No anti-dumping duty, countervailing duty or suspension is listed for these lines. HMRC's classification guidance includes monoclonal antibodies, antibody fragments and conjugates within this heading.

The tariff attaches CITES import and export controls to these lines. Check the source species and ingredients with your broker; material covered by the relevant CITES listings needs the applicable permits. Related antisera and blood-fraction lines carry veterinary control. If your preparation falls there, ask your customs broker to confirm the requirement for the Chinese shipment.

The table separates measured-dose and retail presentations sharing the same code. Confirm mixed or unmixed status, composition and packaging using the commodity code guide. Antibody diagnostic kits may be classified as reagents instead. See the vaccines and antisera guide for the wider heading.

Specify the clone, formulation and research use

Specify the target antigen, clone identifier, host species, antibody class, production method and whether the antibody is conjugated. Agree concentration, total antibody content, buffer, preservatives and carrier proteins. Request batch-specific purity and binding results, with validation for your intended method, such as immunoblotting, tissue staining or flow cytometry.

Record the manufacturer's stated intended purpose. Some reagents can be diagnostic devices or accessories depending on that purpose. For products sold for diagnosis, ask MHRA to confirm applicable marking and registration requirements before relying on the wider guide. For animal-derived material, ask the Animal and Plant Health Agency to confirm a route covering your intended use or resale; its research-sample guidance says those samples cannot be used for commercial use.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative laboratory order of research antibody vials in retail packs under 3002 15 00 00, invoiced at £4,000 free on board, with £1,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £5,500. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £5,500, so it is £1,100. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Identity: match vial labels, clone, target, conjugate and batch identifiers against the purchase specification and certificate of analysis.

Formulation: check concentration, fill quantity, buffer, preservative and carrier protein declarations against the agreed formulation; inspect closures for leakage.

Transport: review temperature records against the supplier's agreed storage and transport conditions before releasing stock; investigate excursions using product stability evidence.

Performance: test retained arrival samples in the intended assay with agreed positive and negative controls; compare binding, background and consistency with the approved sample.

What goes wrong

A matching target name does not establish a matching clone or application. A supplier may substitute the clone, conjugate or formulation, or provide results from another batch. Carrier proteins and preservatives can conflict with downstream work. Appearance alone does not establish binding performance after a transport excursion.

Make substitutions subject to written approval, retain an approved sample and agree acceptance criteria before dispatch. Keep uncertain batches separate while investigating documents, transport records and assay results. Resolve intended-use claims and animal-origin import questions before shipping rather than relying on a research-only label.

Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For repeat volumes, see container programmes.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on research monoclonal antibodies from China?

The relevant heading 3002 immunological product lines carry 0% duty from China. No anti-dumping or countervailing duty is listed in the supplied tariff facts.

Do research antibodies need CE or UKCA marking?

Check the stated intended purpose rather than the antibody name alone. For reagents sold for diagnosis, ask MHRA to confirm applicable marking and registration requirements; agree research use explicitly with the supplier.

Can I resell antibodies imported through the animal-origin research-sample route?

Do not assume that route covers resale. The Animal and Plant Health Agency's guidance says research and diagnostic samples cannot be used for commercial use. Confirm the appropriate route before shipping.

What should I ask the antibody factory for?

Ask for clone identity, source species, full formulation, batch-specific analysis, assay validation and storage information. Agree arrival testing and written approval for any substitution.
