Sourcing reflow soldering ovens from China

Reflow soldering ovens within heading 8515 carry 0% UK duty from China. Check the exact classification and applicable safety and conformity requirements before sale in Great Britain. Specify the board temperature profile rather than relying on the oven display. Cambridge China Bridge sources reflow soldering ovens.

Zero duty on complete soldering ovens

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 17 October 2026, heading 8515 covers electric soldering, brazing and welding equipment and parts. Its other brazing or soldering machines line, 8515 19 90 00, carries 0% duty from China. The oven variants in the table share that line; they are not separate tariff classifications.

The supplied tariff facts record no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspension or attached import control on that complete-machine line. Other parts under 8515 90 80 90 also carry 0%, but the UK Trade Tariff attaches anti-dumping or countervailing registration. Confirm the requirement for Chinese parts with your customs broker before shipment.

Confirm the commodity code using the oven's soldering function, operating description and technical drawings. Do not use the wave-soldering line simply because the oven makes circuit assemblies. See the wider welding and soldering machinery guide for other equipment.

Specify the board profile and handling system

Choose bench batch operation or a conveyor to suit your boards. Specify usable board dimensions, component clearance, board support, heating method, independently controlled heating zones, cooling and temperature-profile recording. Agree acceptance using your solder paste and populated boards, with thermocouples attached to representative locations.

Define the electrical supply, installed load, extraction connection and access for flux cleaning. For nitrogen models, agree the gas connection and how atmosphere performance will be demonstrated. Ask for controller backups, wiring diagrams and identifiable replacement heaters, fans, sensors and conveyor parts.

For Great Britain, electrical and electronic equipment liable to generate electromagnetic disturbance falls within the electromagnetic compatibility rules, subject to exceptions. Where electrical safety importer duties apply, instructions must be in easily understandable English. For an oven supplied as machinery, the responsible person must affix the relevant conformity marking and provide information necessary for safe operation. Arrange a model-specific review through testing and certification.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative small-business order of bench reflow soldering ovens under 8515 19 90 00, invoiced at £4,500 free on board, with £500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £5,000. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £5,000, so it is £1,000. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Thermal profile: record actual board temperatures through heating and cooling, compare them with the agreed solder-paste profile, and repeat with representative loading.

Board handling: check conveyor tracking, speed stability, rail adjustment and board support; for bench ovens, check tray fit and repeatable loading.

Safety and documents: match the oven identity to its declaration and reports; have a competent person check earthing, wiring, hot-surface protection and fitted protective devices.

Arrival condition: inspect chamber alignment, fans, rails and connectors for transport damage; confirm accessories, manuals, controller backups and agreed spares through quality inspection.

What goes wrong

A display can follow the programmed temperature while the solder joints remain too cool or sensitive components become too hot. Uneven airflow, unsuitable loading and inaccurate sensors can produce inconsistent results. Accept the machine against recorded board profiles and soldered samples rather than an empty-chamber demonstration.

Conveyor drift can disturb boards, inadequate support can allow sagging, and flux deposits can obstruct airflow. Check cleaning access and spare-part identification before ordering. A report for a different controller or heater arrangement leaves the delivered configuration insufficiently checked.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on reflow ovens from China?

The supplied tariff facts show 0% duty for other brazing or soldering machines under 8515 19 90 00. Confirm that the exact oven belongs in that line.

Is a reflow oven classified as a wave soldering machine?

Do not assume so. The tariff has a separate wave-soldering line. Give your customs broker the operating description showing how the oven reflows solder paste.

How should I test a reflow oven before shipment?

Run representative populated boards with attached thermocouples. Compare the recorded heating and cooling profile with your agreed process, then inspect solder joints and board handling.

What documents should I request from the factory?

Request the model-specific declaration, supporting reports, wiring diagrams, operating instructions and spare-parts list. Where electrical safety importer duties apply, instructions must be in understandable English.
