Sourcing ready-to-drink oat milk from China
Dairy-free ready-to-drink oat milk from China carries 8% UK duty across the cereal-drink lines shown, with no listed trade remedy. Prepacked drinks need an ingredients list with allergens emphasised. Organic imports need additional certification. Cambridge China Bridge sources ready-to-drink oat milk.

8% duty on dairy-free cereal drinks
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, heading 2202 covers sweetened or flavoured waters and other non-alcoholic beverages, excluding the juices specified outside this heading. For dairy-free oat drinks, the cereal-based branches shown carry 8% duty on goods from China, with no listed anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no suspension.
The tariff attaches an organic-products import control to these lines. For organic oat drinks from China into Great Britain, obtain a certificate of inspection for each consignment and check the exporter’s control body and export country against the non-UK organic registers. The importing business must be UK-based and certified by an approved UK organic control body.
Give your broker the full recipe, including sucrose, invert sugar, juice and any dairy ingredients. The juice branches are relevant only where the product meets their description. Do not classify solely from an oat-milk sales name. Confirm the commodity code; our ready-to-drink soya milk guide covers related drinks within this heading.

Specify the oat recipe and storage route
Specify oat content, sweetness, added oils, stabilisers, flavourings and any vitamin or mineral fortification. Choose a drinking or coffee-use recipe and approve samples for mouthfeel, sediment, shaking and behaviour in hot coffee. Record the agreed recipe and prevent ingredient substitutions without your approval.
Agree whether the drink is supplied for ambient or chilled storage, the heat treatment and filling process, container and closure, and remaining shelf life on arrival. Ask for shelf-life evidence for the actual recipe and packaging. Compare samples held under the intended storage conditions.
Have the English label reviewed before printing. Prepacked drinks need ingredients and allergen information, with allergenic ingredients emphasised each time they appear. Check oats explicitly. Food sold in Great Britain must carry a UK food-business address or the UK importer’s address where applicable. Confirm with the Food Standards Agency whether the colours, sweeteners and preservatives in the actual recipe are permitted for their intended use in Great Britain.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 3,000 bottles of 500 ml dairy-free oat drink under 2202 99 15 99, invoiced at £2,500 free on board, with £1,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £4,000. Duty at 8% is £320. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £4,320, so it is £864. Import taxes total £1,184; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £320 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step. HMRC's VAT Notice 701/14 lists beverages among the exceptions that are standard-rated even though most food is zero-rated, so the 20% VAT shown applies.
Inspection checklist
Recipe: compare batch analysis and declared sugar and nutrients with the approved formulation; assess flavour, sediment and coffee performance against retained samples.
Packaging: inspect seals, caps, carton folds, leaks, swelling and fill levels. Separate damaged or suspect stock for assessment.
Labels: check the approved English artwork, ingredients, allergen emphasis, net quantity, date marking and UK business address; match batch markings to the delivery documents.
Storage: compare transport and warehouse conditions with the agreed specification, check remaining shelf life, and verify organic paperwork where applicable. Use a product-specific inspection brief.

What goes wrong
An approved sample can differ from production after changes to oats, enzymes, oil or stabilisers. The result may be unexpected sweetness, gritty sediment, persistent separation or poor performance in coffee. Compare production samples with the agreed recipe before shipment, rather than accepting the same front-label name as proof of consistency.
Seal damage and unsuitable storage can undermine shelf life. Label artwork can also fail to match the final recipe or omit allergen emphasis. Check the finished packs and batch evidence before release, and have organic documents settled before dispatch. Our factory verification service can support checks on the production and filling process.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For repeat volumes, see container programmes.
