UK duty on PVDF process tubing

Heading 3917 covers plastic tubes, pipes, hoses and their fittings. For PVDF process tubing, distinguish rigid tube from flexible tube, then check reinforcement, combination with other materials and supplied fittings. The table gives classification candidates, rather than a single code for every PVDF tube.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, the selected lines carried 6% duty for goods from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspension or attached import control. Elsewhere in the heading, specified car fuel-hose connectors have a suspension and hardened-protein sausage casings carry veterinary control. These are outside this guide; importers of those casings should confirm the requirement with their customs broker.

Specify PVDF grade and operating conditions

Write the PVDF resin manufacturer and grade, homopolymer or copolymer construction, permitted additives and any recycled content into the order. Fix inside and outside diameter, wall thickness, ovality, tolerances, coil or cut length and the intended connection method. Agree bore cleanliness, tube-end protection and batch traceability.

Identify the process fluid, concentration, operating temperature, pressure and cleaning chemicals. Request compatibility evidence for those conditions and a pressure rating tied to temperature and tube dimensions. Test samples with the intended fittings. REACH restrictions can limit, ban or set conditions on substances being placed on the market or used; obtain material information and assess applicable restrictions.

For pressure service in Great Britain, assess whether pressure-equipment rules apply to the supplied tubing. Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 20 coils of unreinforced flexible PVDF process tubing without fittings under 3917 32 00 90, invoiced at £2,400 free on board, with £1,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £3,900. Duty at 6% is £234. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £4,134, so it is £826.80. Import taxes total £1,060.80; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £234 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Material: match resin-grade and batch records to the order and supplied tubing; investigate substitutions or unexplained changes in appearance.

Dimensions: measure sampled inside and outside diameters, wall thickness and ovality; check coil or cut lengths against agreed tolerances.

Connections: assemble the intended fittings and check leakage, pull-out and tube damage using the agreed test conditions and safe test method.

Cleanliness: inspect the bore and ends for particles, extrusion debris and damage; check capped ends, sealed packing and batch labels.

What goes wrong

A quotation that says only PVDF leaves the resin grade and additives unresolved. Uneven walls or oval tube ends can compromise fitting engagement. Crushed coils, scored surfaces and poorly protected bores create installation or contamination problems.

A pressure result without temperature, dimensions and a test method does not establish suitability for your process. Chemical resistance evidence for a different concentration or cleaning regime can also mislead.
